Besides spirits, I am a movie buff mostly
old.(I'm answering the question).

In 2001 The Head of the space agency
is going up to the moon when he runs into
some Russians from their agency. The
Russians want to know what is going on.
It's already on a need to know basis to
Americans, and Floyd is sitting their lying
and covering up.

I didnt think much of it at the time. Kubrick
puts everything in his films for a reason, why
he is such a good director.

The Russians keep trying to get Floyd
to have a drink. They're pretty persistent
about it.

But Floyd won't take the drink, and he doesn't
tell them about the monolith either.

I heard this is also. But the only thing that mytifies me is when friends do dumb things and the next morning they say, "Oh I was drunk," or "I don't remember that."
Example: make out with a guy or go home with a him the night they met, or dance on a table while showing everyone they have no under wear on. Does that mean they are drunk and really don't know what they are doing OR there true feelings of being a "whore" come out.

I have also heard this, but its is only sometimes the case, and only for some people. it is definitely not always true. A perfectly modest, quiet woman can become boistorous and aggressive not because it is her personality, but because these are the negative effects of alcohol. BUT
for example with many people who are feeling very low, or who are depressed and covering it, they cry when drunk. Or a person who pretends to be sad, but who is actually happy, may laugh.
Though this is just as probable as an average person/ happy person getting REALLy happy drunk.
it depends.

I would not necessarity say "true" feelings, simply because people are literally in an altered mental state when they are drinking/drunk. Most people are less inhibited to speak freely, and do not consider the consequences. For example, after drinking for a bit, I told my ex excatly how I felt about him (it was not good), and we haven't spoken since.

Alcohol is a depressant. Even when you have a happy buzz (or are a happy drunk), it's as a result of the depressant qualities.

It does not reveal your "true" personality, but merely disables your judgment, inhibitions, etc. Maybe part of that might be saying something you really think, but your better judgment (which is gone when drunk) told you not to say,

But, in general, intoxication should not be mistaken for true personality or feelings.

It impares your judgement and lowers inhibitions. So, in a way, you could say "you express your true personality and feelings". You might be less likely to follow social rules about what is "right and wrong" because of your lowered inhibitions and more likely to make bad decisions about expressing feelings or personality traits due to your lowered judgement.

I once heard a great quote ~ that I think is WAY true. "What a man says drunk, he's thought sober".

In most cases of every one I've ever known... they are pretty much true to themselves when drunk, just less inhibited!

I think people only use that as an excuse to behave in ways they wouldn't otherwise.
