It is not the way you drink vodka, or other alcohols, that is harmful or dangerous; its the amount. So if drinking it straight means you will drink more in less time, than yeah, that's not so good.
Distillers of good vodka aim for a flavorless product. If you are trying to find something to drink straight for the taste of it, pick something else.

Moderately, it is fine. The worst you could get would be a hangover. Most martini's are just vodka, but they are served in a specific portion. However, if you decide to shoot vodka or drink it at a much faster rate, you will probably:
1- get drunk at a much faster rate
2- get very sick
3- possibility of severe alcohol poisioning
4- be sick and unable to keep much down for several days

drinking too much can cause serious conditions w/c can be fatal. for women 2 or 3 units a day will have no significant health risk, they say that for those who've been thru menopause 2 or 3 units of alcohol helps prevent coronary heart disease. if you're pregnant you should not drink more than 1 or 2 units of alcohol, once or twice a week, or better not to drink at all. heavy drinking will cause you a liver damage. in 2 or 3 days before period, and during ovulation, the effects of alcohol will be felt more quickly than normal. if you're taking contraceptive pill you do not feel this effect, but alcohol may take longer to leave your body. if you're pregnant, you're giving the baby too 'coz alcohol passes trhu to baby's bloodstream across the placenta. mothers with serious drink problem rish ahving a baby with physical and mental abnormalities. this is called fetal alcohol syndrome(FAS).
IMMEDIATE EFFECTS:
nausea, vomiting, headaches, hangovers, accidents and getting into fights, risk of death thru accidents, acute alcohol poisoning
TOO MUCH DRINKING CAN CAUSE:
stomach disorders like ulcers and gastritis, cancer of the mouth, throat and gullet, brain damage, sexual difficulties, high blood pressure, muscle disease, problems with nervous system like pain in the legs and arms.
HOPE that helps

Depends on the amount. Drink too much, you get drunk, alcohol poisoning, etc.
What's unlikely to happen, however, is that you'll burn your mouth or digestive system, as you would with Everclear.
People drink vodka straight all of the time.

There are no more dangers drinking it straight as opposed to mixed. Although mixed with orange juice you do get the added vitamin C and it will slow your dehydration. Otherwise reduced inhibitions, inability to operate a car or heavy machinery, and possible dependancy are the dangers. Makes me thirsty.

the immediate effects really depends on your tolerance for alcohol ... side effects would be the same as getting too intoxicated with any alcohol - vomitting, blacking out, making a fool of yourself.
side effects overtime are the ones people should worry about more. liver failure, serosis (sp) of the liver, overall damage to the body. there can be tons of side effects.

too much can put you in a coma, cause you to pass out and choke on your own sick, alcohol poisoning and stomach pumped or death.
if you drink tons its best to be sick as otherwise you can get alochol poisoning.
wait a bit for the effects too, dont just go downing it.
and drink small shots.
dnt just drink it out the bottle or nething!

I used to do it when I was going through my paryting phase. Just don't drink it so fast that you end up with alcohol poisoning. If you know your limit you'll be fine.

no danger. I do it all the time, and I'm perfectly O.K. Just don't drink more than a bottle yourself, or you'll need to get your stomach pumped, but even that's not too bad.
