Write to the authority that issued the parking fine (either police or Council - it tells you on the ticket) and explain the situation.
I've had that done several times over the years and the authorities are pretty good about cancelling these things.
**It's likely to be a 'clone' plate.

Usually the council of the town in question. Years ago I had the same problem with a parking fine from Reading when I hadn't been there in two years and even then I wasn't in the vehicle in question. A quick word over the phone with a supervisor and a letter covering the circumstances sorted it. Make sure you can vouch for where you and your car were on the day of the "offence". If the fine was from ,say, Doncaster and your car is on Nottingham cctv at the time so much the better.

There is usually an appeal process you can use to contest the ticket. A lot of times in the Cities, the parking control ppl do not put the correct state or even transpose numbers.
If that does not work, you can always take it to court, at which time you need to ask if your time is worth more than the ticket.
These kinds of tickets do not go on your driving record, unless they go unpaid, which could lead to your car getting a boot or your Driver's License getting suspended.

This happened to me once. I contacted the town that issued the ticket and after reviewing the ticket with the clerk, it was discovered that the make and color of the car were incorrect on the ticket and then we discovered the license number matched but it was a different state. The clerk made an error entering the data. They updated their system and I was off the hook.
Good luck.

Call the township tell them what's going on and like others said it's possibly a clone or just an incorrect filing. (Sometimes it's easier to pay the fine than to drive all over creation and the headaches involved.)

Contact the issuing agency and they will straighten it all out. You can usually call them and they will lift the ticket and fine.

Your licence plate has been cloned. This is illegal, report it to the Police. Request a Crime Report number and use that in your defence.
