genesis 1:1, takes place before light and darkness are seperated. No days.

The argument is there cannot be days without light. The heaven and earth were created before light. Before days.

The fact that you're trying to deny the Bible says what it clearly says is good evidence that you're embarassed by your beliefs and recognise them to be worthless.
People will tell you "Oh well a day doesn't actually *mean* a day, it means... [insert dodge here]". However, in Genesis it says "[5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."
Day and night, evening and morning. Sounds like a regular 24-hour day to me. To say "Oh well it doesn't actually mean a day, it really means 8 billion years for the first day and 3 billions years for the second day" doesn't sound very convincing to me. It just sounds like a desperate and futile attempt to save Genesis from being discredited by real scientific knowledge.

This argument is old and tired. The answer will vary by denomination.
Is 6 days a literal statement? Is it 'God' days? 'Man' days? Does the verse that says a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years but a day....kind of give a little light? The argument is pointless. Focus instead on your actions and your own life.

I'm a Christian and not an Atheist...
I sure don't like where you are going with this question. You are creating a false premise.
From the separation of light from darkness, God called it a "day."
Congratulations! You are now a heretic!

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the SECOND DAY. 9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the THIRD DAY.
See the 'second' and 'third' qualifier? It goes on like that for six days.

these "days" are lengths of time. not cycles These days are actually 1000 yr periods. You have put confusion where there actually was none. After the sixth "day" everything was created except adam and eve and the indigenous things in the garden of eden.In other words the eighth day creation.

Well I was told by some mormons that a day wasn't a literal day it was just a measure of time that people could understand. I don't really care how long they say it took god to create the world because I don't believe he did because I don't believe in god.

I know that some people say that between Gen 1.1 and 1.2 there was some sort of creation and recreation. Why would it just not say so? You have to bend over backwards to get that out of these 2 verses. I don't understand why God would be so obtuse.

Day 3 - 1:13
Day 4 - 1:19
Day 5 - 1:23
Day 6 - 1:31

Actually, there are a lot of strict six day Creationists about. The accusation is spurious. Atheists refute six day creation. You are a beacon of bearing falser witness. I hope you are proud of your hatred.
