Well, first of all, dogs are hunters by nature and hamsters are their nature prey, so......
That said, many dogs have had the "hunt" bred out of them and are fine around the animals that naturally would be food.
I recommend going to a shelter or Human Society and getting a puppy so it can grow up around your other animals and think of them as members of its pack.
My dog from the Humane Society was $100 and that included getting him nutured. And he's been great.
Don't get any dogs that resemble hunting dogs (retreivers, spaniels, ect.). Rottweilers, while they have a reputation for being mean, are actually naturally very nice and have to be made mean. Watch out for toy dogs. They were breed to catch rats and critters and probably won't be able to help themselves around your hamsters.
Just look around your area shelters and Humane Society and I'm sure you'll find a dog you love. Believe me, there are lots of dogs out there that need a good home.
Good luck with your choice.

The great thing about dogs is that they are pack animals and you get to be the leader/guide. You set the rules, boundaries, limitations and such. You are the parent and of course there will be mistakes. I would check out an animal shelter. For some fun ideas... Cesar Milan or the Dog Whisperer (I want to say on the National Geographic channel). If you have a good library you can also get instructional DVDs and books on dog training. The long of the short is you will be setting up the hamster as a pack leader so your dog does not bite or attack. At the very least, the dog should respect all boundaries you set. You will correct any aggressive behavior with your voice or with voice and a touch (firm touch or a gentle but quick touch). This is an animal that will be with you for a while so make sure you are picking what you want and be prepared to train. At the shelter pick out the dog that is calm (if there is one that is)...
As far as getting a dog, you can check your newspaper for mutts and pups. Some folks find mutts to be the best while others not so much. Keep in mind if it is a big dog it may need some serious exercise or at least have a big enough yard and some time to play.
Hopefully this helps a bit.
Best of luck.

Well, although you can't predict just how sweet a dog will be, the only way you'll get a dog for $95 is if you adopt. I've adopted both my dogs and I couldn't have asked for better! You'll probably want to stay away from terrier and hound breeds, as they would most likely find hamsters very tempting play toys or treats! There's a pet match link on animalplanet.com. Although, that site will only tell you the specific breed that matches what would be good for you (and most adopted dogs are mixed breeds), it could at least point you in the right direction of the "type" of dog you want. Once you do that, go to petfinder.com and search for the type of breed you want. There are MANY dogs there that need homes. I found one of mine there and she's an angel. It's a great site!
I just want to add, make sure you spay or neuter your dog, if the shelter doesn't do that automatically. There are too many animals living less than happy lives in shelters.

You should probably keep the hamster away from any dog. They won't necessarily be trying to hurt it, but they will anyway.
Check at your local pound first, they will usually give you a dog for the cost of shots and registration. They may not be show dogs, but there are a lot of good animals that are going to be put down if they don't get adopted.

If you want one for less than $100 then go to a shekter and adopt one. There is no guarantee that a dog will be well behaved when you get it. You have to train it. You can visit the shelters and check out the dogs and see what kind of temperament that they have. Good luck.

Go to the animal shelter and let a pooch pick you out. The adoption fees are usually $60-$100 (depending on where you are) and those fees include the animal's first shots and a spay or neuter.
Don't get a terrier type dog, they are rodent hunters and would be verrrrry interested in your hamsters...

Put in your own zip code here> http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Dog&pet.Breed=&pet.Age=Young&pet.Size=S&pet.Sex=&location=CA&preview=1&scope=0&x=12&y=10
and see what is ready to go in your own area. You may just find the pup of your dreams! You can click on any pic and learn more about the dog, and whether it gets along with other animals, etc.
happy shopping!
these babies are a bit younger, but I would say away from terriers and beagles, as they will not likely be safe with smaller critters.> http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Dog&pet.Breed=&pet.Age=Baby&pet.Size=S&pet.Sex=&location=CA&preview=1&scope=0&x=11&y=11

The only place to get a dog for that price is to adopt or to get a mutt.

Have you looked at your local pound or at ASPCA? Take the hampster with you and see how the dog of your choice reacts.
