My sister is having eye surgery, she is diabetic and her sight is affected by bleeding inside. The procedure includes putting a little air inside the retna and will leak out slowly. I don't know the proceedures name but any answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure of the 'air' aspect, but usually bleeding in the retina is caused by ruptured vessels - a common thing in diabetics. Generally a laser is used to cauterized the broken blood vessels. Perhaps the increased air pressure method is to help stop the bleeding, but I've always thought the eye itself was harmed by extra internal pressure. Another thought would be the extra air as an aid to the surgery, but not the procedure to repair the damage.
I'd speak to her opthamologist to get a clearer idea of the procedure.

Call the doctor and get the correct name and look it up on webmd.com.

Also, in the search web site. Any information you can get will help you. Also a trip to the Dr. with her may help.

good luck to you all.
