first of all, don't stress! i know it can be frustrating when something's wrong and you don't know what to do and have tried already! i would talk to your dr about it. i've never experienced the dry skin before my third baby (now 3 mos.) but the dr told me at our last checkup that he has excema. not sure if i spelled that right! my first two kids never had it, so i thought it was the cradle cap too, but then was told it wasn't and needed a prescription lotion to put on dry areas twice a day. i would get him checked by the dr and see what it is and how to help him get rid of it.

i also was told by my dr not to give my infant a bath more than twice a week. and don't use baby wash or lotion or anything with a fragrance. i use aveeno baby wash for the bath and then eucerin lotion for after the bath. i apply the eucerin lotion when i see the skin getting dry also.

good luck. hope i've helped!

My ten week old son is the same way. He gets dry skin on his forehead, his head, etc. The doctor recommended to me to use Johnson's baby lotion on the patches *not on his hair, I don't want to gunk it up*, but that it will come back. USing things such as baby oil or heavy moisturizers will actually clog his pores, causing "infant acne", which looks way worse than dry skin! My doctor told me that it will eventually go away on it's own, that the cold winter weather just made it last a little longer.

could be a very sensitive skinned baby and sounds like contact dermatitis. This is what they classify Lot's of skin conditions as when they suspect the reaction is coming from something the skin is in contact with.
Try non allergic soaps for washing linens and the baby--also see a skin specialist if switching soaps does not work. if the oil doesn't work--then try not using it.

Hot water dries out the skin! Try Cetaphil products. It's excellent in moisturising the skin and making it smooth again. Don't scrub the skin because this causes the skin to come off without giving a chance for the skin underneath to heal. Use Cetaphil moisturiser or cream afterwards to retain much needed moisture.

Maybe it has soemthing to do with his/her diet, that makes her skin so dry; or the environment. Are there changes in your baby's diet or activity lately. Try to find out and continue with putting baby oil before and after bath. If still unsatisfied then you must see a doctor.

i remember my nephew got it really bad to...he also had really bad skin problems such as his skin began peeling and went green it was terrible.. we found out it was due to the oil that we were putting on him... we switched to using e45 on him and aveeno baby cream it hs all cleared up a good way to prevent dry clean is every time you do his nappy or at least once a day put a mositerising cream on him.. we do thaat to my nephew and his skin is now fine.

Baby lotion or mix it with a few drops of olive oil and apply two to three times a day. Keep head covered when outdoors.

Wet his hair, rub in a little baby oil, then wash normally with Aveeno babywash shampoo.

Use a very very soft bathing brush on his scalp when you wash his hair.

Make sure you keep his fingernails trimmed so he doesn't scratch.

For around the neck and ears I would recommend plain old Nivea cream in the blue tub has always worked for me and my kids. Not the lotion or any of the fancy ones though just the plain cream in the pot.

P.S We've tried many of the over the counter and prescriptions ones with little effect.
