Tell your roomie to keep his boy on a leash. Let him know that it's not cool for his friend to show up like that, and put some rules on the phone, like no calls after 10. If your roommate needs to talk to someone at those hours of the morning, then he needs to get a cell/mobile phone.
I hope your roomie isn't a tweeker. If he is, then it's understandable that some nut is probably tryin' to score tweek at 2 in the morning...but in that case I'd try finding myself a new roommate.

It's up to you to tell your roommate how much this bothers you, and up to your roommate to do something about the situation. If he does nothing, or appears upset that you have complained, then you must take steps to remove yourself from the situation, either by finding another residence, or following some of the other suggestions in these answers: don't answer the door when he knocks; don't answer the phone when he calls, and turn off the ringer if you can. He's there to visit your roommate; let your roommate handle his visits and calls. Get a white sound machine that will screen out most noises; they're wonderful.
If you ignore the 'friend' long enough, he'll get the message and tire of his game. He's looking for your response; don't give him one.

I think your roommate should own telling this guy to stop calling and coming by so often/abruptly. However, it seems you will have to either endorse him making a change or take matters in your own hands. Do you have caller-id? I screen most of my calls, pisses my wife off, but I don't want to talk to my Mother-in-law to tell her she is not here. I figure she will get the point when the phone isn't answered.

i would unplug the phone on saturday night before you go to bed. and i would ask your roommate to talk to his buddy about the lack of respect he is showing your home. if he does show up un announced just tell him you are busy and slam the door in his face. he should get the hint. or maybe he likes you and doesnt know how to tell you and so he figures by calling and dropping by he will get to see you.

I know what you mean. My cousin who lives in North Carolina always calls early on Saturday mornings. I hate it. Then on top of it he doesn't want anything. I had to tell him don't call me early on the weekends, call after 12 o'clock noon.

it is of very poor taste to visit unannounced. But then again, you cannot force people to be considerate and educated, the most you can do is tell your roommate to ask him to visit after 9 am (10,11..whatever works for you).
