I have a pair of black dance/aerobics tights in a box with a bunch of other stuff from my last move, most of which I tossed this past weekend. But these tights appeared to be in good condition except for the mildew odor. So I took a chance and washed them in Arm & Hammer detergent with both oxyclean and colorfast bleach. The tights came out in good condition, except still with a distinct mildew odor. What should I do other than give up and toss them? These are good quality tights, and I know I should have taken better care of them in the first place, but...

Yeah, wrong place. Sorry. I assumed they would assign it to the right place from the keywords... Thanks for the answers anyway.

Clearly God is punishing me for not taking better care of my clothes.

Hi..who cares where you posted the question.... other's have probably done the same before. As for the tights.. wash them in warm water and add a little Vinegar with the detergent... this should get the smell out! You could also try pouring a box of baking soda in with the laundry detergent and then wash them again... good luck. Some people are so rude!

When next you wash them, put a capful of ammonia in the wash. That will kill any actual mildew. When drying, use like 3 dryer sheets. If the smell persists, try a fabric deodorizer like Febreeze.

Some in this section will tell you to "pray the smell out".
I'll tell you to try washing them with detergent and anywhere between a 1/2 cup to a full cup of vinegar.

Wrong place perhaps?
Why not try rinsing them in water with a couple of drops of patchouli oil - bikers used to use the stuff on their leathers when they couldnt clean them to stop them being stinky - it does work.

Try a solution of baking soda and lemon juice. Don't use patchouli--it may cover the smell, but yuck! =0)

Are you aware that you are in the R&S section?
If the smell won't go away then simply buy a new pair.

Get the mildew smell out of your crotch first, before you wear the tights again... Thats what you get for bugging God with such a stupid question that has nothing to do with religion. PRAISE JESUS!!!!!
