this tendency to submit to a higher power, and sometimes to sacrifice themselves in the name of this higher power, being it a true power (leaders) or imaginary (deities)?
So how does it feel to know that your religious beliefs are but another evolutionary feature?
Isn't it funny that most of you, theists, are being relentlessly dragged by this collective "call of the wild"?

That is a really good question. :)
Unfortunately someone is bound to answer with 'god did it'.

I both agree and disagree with you. It's possible that the compulsion for belief in god is tied into vestigial instincts to submit to a "pack mentality." At the same time, the thing that makes us most human, put best by Victor Frankel, is that, "in the instant between stimulus and response, man has the power to choose."
In support of your argument, to say the least, it would be odd for god to separate us from the animals, and then use the exact same mechanism to inspire belief in him.

I would say that you are trying to attack belief systems worldwide and ascribe to atheism, and I respect your beliefs. I also would like to point out that all animals, insects, ect... have a natural order and this includes a 'subservience' structure in the brain, and that we have to have this structure to maintain a social order. But please be mindful of the fact that many people find hope in their faith, they find strength that they didn't know they had because of their faith, and they find the ability to struggle on for another day through their faith. So my question to you is why would you want to deprive the simple human animal of his hope? Why do you want to destroy their belief system? If it serves them well and they don't try to force it on you, why not let them be with their shred of hope so that tomorrow doesn't seem so bleak?

How can you be free from submissiveness? You are under the control of your wife, your children, your government, your nonsenses mind, your belly, your genitals, anger, lust, can you control those? I don't think so, and what about the laws nature? Can you stop disease, getting old or die? You are forced to be submissive to something or someone, no scape.
And under illusion you worship someone like politicians, singers, writers, or your stinky body full of stool and urine.
So i rather to be submissive to the supreme power, and worship the Supreme Being.

I would argue that at a very young age we are hardwired to believe what our parents say; I can see the evolutionary advantage of that. I don't see us hardwired to believe in god at all; too many atheists.

Sorry, but man didn't come from the apes. He fell and descended to their level. Your thinking is backwards and a product of the world and the way it wants you to think. You are the one that is in a sense, hard wired, or more precisley, conditioned and programmed by the so called experts.

Whats the problem - so we evolved with it, it obviously benefits us in some way, do you have a problem with me following my natural urges, would you for instance advocate stopping sex as that is also hardwired into our brains?
What is the point in this question please tell me?

You might be a monkey, but I am fearfully and wonderfully made by my Creator, Almighty God. I hate to tell you but when most animals are approached, they run away. They don't have a tendency to submit. Hunters hunt them down.
Try again.

LOL--nice try, but if you want to shake me loose from my faith, you're going to have to come up with something better than that. My faith is firmer than your muscles. Peace.
