i am in nj, and was pulled over for driving a non-registered car (certainly my fault). my car was impounded and towed to a yard about 10 miles from the incident. this happend friday afternoon and when i went to pick up my car on monday around noon, i was charged $350, for the towing services. this seems like a rip-off, is there any thing i can do about the high charges. i already have paid because i am a student and i needed my car to go back to school.

Sorry but the towing company has the right to charge whatever they want to. They fee you paid was for the towing and storage of your car. Since it was your fault and the police contacted the company to pick up the car, you have no recourse of action.

I am assuming these were all fees charged by a private towing company. They should have explained their fee schedule to you. Likely you were charged a towing fee and a storage fee for each day the car was there. You would have been charged Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Even though it was only there for part of Friday and Monday.

If what you were charged matches up with these charges (and maybe some other administrative charges assessed) then you probably don't have any recourse. The towing companies usually operate under a section of law which allows them to charge certain towing and storage fees.

If you still think you were overcharged you can always take the tow company to small claims court.

If they towed your car you have to pay it the longer it stays impounded the more they charge best pay it now before it gets to 4 figures

Nope, nothing you can do, you broke the law, and that towing fee was for them to tow your vehicle to the police impound.
