I agree. My daughter's first birthday was fun. I spent the entire time trying to get her to play with her new toys, but NOOOOO, she wanted the wrapping paper and bows!
I prefer to buy my daughter books instead of toys.

Toys keep children entertained. Good for learning but so is a box. Opens their imagination. A box could a space ship or a house. Could keep a child entertained for hours I know it has my girls. Another thing that has been a fun toy in our house is a blanket, I can't Even count how many times we have played peek-a-boo with a blanket. But other toys have done the same thing, but it has always been the most simplest toys. Books, puzzles, play dough, finger paint, a toy kitchen and blocks have been the best toys in our house.

I usually get the educational toys for my daughter and my friend's kids. Books are a favorite with them all. Puzzles and dry erase books and play dough have been favorites too. Toys can be fun too, but now I have my 5 yr old watching tv and saying"i want this" or"get me that" I can see I need to teach her the value of the little things in life.
And watch my own purchases as well.

If people are willing to pay the price (for any product), someone will sell it to you at that price. My pets are the same way. they would rather play with a box or balled up piece of aluminum foil.

give him a box and be done with it! a box would do wonders for his imagination! whereas most toys these days do all the imagining for the kid!
