They only come about three or four times a year-usually in the Spring or the Summer. It's a very sharp pain in one side of my head. Occasionally I feel naseous. If I open my eyes or move my head the pain is much worse. It comes so infrequently, however. Don't migraines come on a regular basis for those who have them? How do I find out?

There are many symptoms of migranes, but the ones you've described sound pretty much like it. Migraines most commonly start in the morning, when you first wake up and get better as the day gets better, according to my doctor.
I have gotten migranes in single servings, and I've also had them every day for three straight weeks.

I don't have your usual cookie cutter migraine: Mine start well after I've woken up, starting with tension in my neck, and are piercing in my temples, usually on one side, accompanied by a sensitivity to light, movement, and nausiousness. My doctor prescribed some muscle relaxers that knock me out and get rid of the headache when I actually get one. Now I am better: I watch the tension in my neck carefully, making sure to not wear tight ponytails/buns for too long, and to relax when I feel the tension coming back, often getting in the shower and letting the messager take out the tension in my muscles to head it off. I only get them twice a year or so now.

Take my advise, talk to your doctor. Good luck!

I have migraines and they do not come on any regular bases. I get them 5-8 times a year. The light and most noise is extremely painfully. I also get sick to my stomach but usually after vomiting a few times the pain will ease some.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

I think you can judge for yourself if one of these applies.

You might want to see a doctor for meds.
