My 9 month old son has 5 stitches in his ring finger on his right hand across the knuckle. They have is bandaged up with gause and sticky tape stuff. But he has to keep in on for 10 days total he has 5 more days till they come out. But the problem that I am having is he wont leave it alone and I have to keep it dry and clean and that is impossiable to keep it dry and clean with his age. I am just wondering if there are any parents out there that might be able to give me some advice on what to do. To make it a little bit more comfortable for him. The other thing is he keeps ripping the bandage off and draging the stitches across the carpet and I am guessing that he does that because the healing of the wound is making it itch. So like I said I would like to know some ways that I can make this easier on the both of us. Thanks in advance.

First I would call the Dr's office and ask for suggestions they have the most experince and know the total story of your childs care. But in the meantime along with distraction try a mitten like similar to the ones they use on newborns to keep them from scratching

If your son isn't allergic to Neosporin ointment, I recommend that you try Neosporin-Plus ointment, but PLEASE, check with his pediatrician first. This is sold over-the-counter, and has a pain releiving agent which also seems to help with itching, it also keeps the wound and stitches moist, and it 's an antibiotic ointment, so it may help prevent infection even though it's impossible to keep the dressing on. Remember to check with your son's pediatrician first!

ok, first, stitches are pretty hard to get out until they're cut. your baby will will probably be in too much pain when attempting to tear them out!
next, maybe they itch? see if your doc will let you put first aid cream or vit E oil or aloe vera gel around the area of the stitches. the skin around stitches dries out pretty bad. esspecially since the area doesn't see too much moisture!
good luck!

Try putting a glove or a sock over it. To secure it put a rubber band or hair band over it.
