He has a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. That is how people describe him. He's been hurt in past relationships and wants to develope a friendship before a relationship. We've been "growing" a friendship over the past 3 months, He makes all the advances - I respond to show him I am interested, too. Things were going very well between us. Then all of a sudden he completely backed off and has been doing things that are uncharacteristic of him. The last time I spoke with him he said that he's just been "really busy" - that's all it was. I've been giving him space because I think he is afraid of the feelings he's been having and will be back when he resolves these issues. I haven't been calling him because I don't want to appear needy or be a pest. Would you wait for him to come around, confront him about his behavior or ask him out? Walking away isn't an option.

He's backed off like this before and has come back and taken our relationship a little further. If he doesn't want my friendship I can't do anything about it and time will tell on that.

Seems like he could be really busy with whatever he's doing or it could be that he's nervous about where you'll friendship is leading to. Feelings may be a factor and also past memories are being a toll on him. So keep in contact every once and awhile but don't call everyday. Wait for him to come around cus you're showing your concern about him by calling and checking on him. Maybe if things are getting a little better ask him if you'll want to hang out or something.

Walking away is an option. Might be selfish.
But you count to in this relationship. If he's not holding up to his end. You have a right to know why.
It seems to me that when people say, "I have been hurt a lot." "I need my space." What they are saying is, "I am not going to get into a serious relationship with you ever." I could be wrong though.

give him time and wait for him to come to you. the last thing a guy wants is a girl who is going to bother them when they need time to be alone.
