I like Corey Pavin, but I can't figure out why he is dead last every year in driving distance. I'm about his size and I hit the ball that far. Plus, I play in Seattle where it's wetter and colder. Given that he can use the best equipment, afford the best instruction, and plays in mostly warm weather climates where the ball goes farther it seems odd that he doesn't even drive the ball as far as many of the women on the LPGA tour.

Why, why, why, Corey?

the biggest reason why is his age, and bcuz of that he doesnt have the flexibility to get a full shoulder turn, also i read somewhere(i dont remember where it was a while ago) that he has mild arthritis in his wrists so his release, which is extremely important for distance in a golf swing, is sometimes off a lil bit bcuz of that

Like Fred Funk, Pavin has the complete, albiet, short drive game. It's his approach shots and skill around and on the green that have made him a successful golfer for pushing 25 years. Granted his 2007 stats in general are way down, but he is 48 years old, afterall. And he's got to be doing something right to win 13 million bucks and the US Open championship in 1995.

Distance is only one aspect of playing golf, and is not necessarily the only criteria for greatness. Although they are different players, compare Pavin to Gary Player. Gary was never a long hitter like Palmer and Nicklaus in their primes, but that didn't prevent him from becoming one of the all time greats. Accuracy, short game, putting, performance under pressure, are only a few of the qualities that make a great golfer.

Its his size, age and swing. Have you watched him swing not much club head speed and it a cut/ fade swing so the ball doesn't roll much after it lands. He rellies on accurrcy over distance. Still he's a great golfer.

He has accepted his slight build and is content with it. His game strengths are in his short irons, short wedge game and putting and that's what he concentrates on. If he bulked up and put on muscle weight it would effect the more intricate parts of his game. He simply recognizes that he compete with the big dogs in their arena.

He is just getting too old for the PGA Tour. Can't you see, his hair is getting whiter.
