My 3 month old baby kitten was hurt when someone accidently steped on her paw. He has been limping since and treating the limb gingerly. While occasionally he seems to be in pain at other times he purs. I can't take him to the vet where I live. Can anyone tell me if the paw is broken or just injured and what I can do to help him.

The cat will be fine. Just give it some time, even if he has a toe broke or something it will heal on it's own. (I live on a farm and deal with animals all the time). If he's limping around and sometimes purring it's just injured/sore and he'll be over it in a couple days.

Now, if he starts not walking around at all, stops eating, the limb becomes cold or greatly swollen I'd reccomend getting him seen. But in general Cats know how to take care of themselves and he will let you know if he's in great pain or grossly injured.

The best way to be sure is to get it checked by a vet. Telling us here is basically useless. There are few possible outcomes if you plan to just leave it alone (or treat it at home). First, it was just some little swelling and it gets better after some time (with or without medications). Second, it has a broken foot, it will heal but with extreme pain. As cats hide pain well, you wont be able to know in how much pain it really is having. Later, it wil heal, but there will either be deformity on its paw or it will limp, or both. Third, it's paws was broken and wounded. The wounds become infected. And the kitten die a horrible and painful death.

Now, would you really want to take the chance and leave it be or would you bring it to a vet asap, and have it checked out properly?

Wounds from cat fights can get contaminated really truthfully. efficient, they don't consistently get contaminated, yet when this were my cat i could take it to the vet once achieveable and get some antibiotics to be secure. i could visit an emergency vet this weekend in the adventure that your established vet isn't obtainable. (Your established vet could have information on their answering gadget telling you the position you may search for care.) What concerns me is that it alreadly seems swollen, even with the reality that it's not ordinary to inform from a photo. If that is already swollen, then probability is that is contaminated too and needs a vet's help. that is alright to attempt triple antibiotic ointment at residing house. warmth compresses (soak a washcloth in warmth to warm tapwater, wring out an outstanding form of the water and prepare it on your cat's wound) can help advance bloodflow to the realm. This brings the body's healing factors and an infection-struggling with defenses to the wound and could % healing. Even cleansing it off with peroxide is okay too - do only not do it more effective than some times or you'll easily postpone healing. yet even with the reality that this stuff received't harm your cat, they do no longer help very a lot. they're easily no longer an option decision to a vet visit, and your cat could nonetheless get a nasty abscess after all you try. And in case you be sure to easily manage it at residing house (which i do not propose), if it is going to get extra valuable it is going to achieve this in some days. If that's no extra valuable by technique of Monday, or if it ever begins searching worse, then you really surely opt for to take it to a vet.

You need to take your kitten to the vet ASAP as he may have broken his paw. My kitten was 3 months old at the time he was hurt. My fiancee and I didn't think anything of it, but when he started howling in pain we took him to the vet. Turns out he broke his leg just above the ankle. Talk to the vet and see if they can work out a payment plan for you. Good Luck and I hope your kitten gets better soon.

why cant you take him to the vet??!?!?!?! when you get a kitten you are taking on a great responsibility and you should have considered vet bills (or lack of them in this case) before you got one. the kitten might get better on its own or it may need proffessional help but the only way to know is by taking it to a vet!!! you wouldnt let a human baby walk around with a limp would you?? a kitten is no different!

If it was broken, he wouldn't even be limping. He would be lying down not moving and he would look totally traumatized. There has to be someone close to where you live who will take a look at him. Call the Humane Society; they have veterinary clinics all over the place that are very, very cheap and will often see animals for free. So don't be lame, get that poor little kitty to a Humane Society clinic TODAY!!!!!

Only way to tell for sure if it is broken, other than seeing a bone sticking out, is to get it xrayed.

If he is in pain, he should be see by a vet. If you can't take him to the vet, you should take him to your local shelter or ASPCA so they can take care of him.

I think that he strained it. You may need to ice it or lay him down on a hot water bottle. I hope your kitten gets better soon!
