I understand that he could be of the Jewish race but to be of the Jewish religion would mean that he did not believe himself to be son of God. Please help me understand.

Jews:
As a people God chose the Jews, a distinct race of people, so that His majesty and glory would be made manifest to the rest of the world. The first Christians were Jews, and the spread of Christianity in its early days was primarily due to messianic Jews. In fact, all the authors of the Christian bible, save one, were Jews who lived in the days before the Second Temple was destroyed in 70 CE.

But, like all other peoples, they (the Jewish people) are held to the same standards that God holds all peoples to. The Jew must acknowledge Christ as their means of reconciliation with a just God. If Jesus did not fulfill biblical prophecy, if he is not the promised Messiah of Israel, if he was not born of a virgin, if he did not die for the sins of the world and rise from the dead, if he is not coming back as King of all kings to rule and reign here forever- then he is the Messiah and Savior of nobody. He is a false prophet and the writers of the New Testament were either deceivers or deceived. In other words, if Christ is not the Messiah of the Jews then He is not the Savior of the Christians.

The Jewish religion is the Old Testament Bible. Jesus believed in the Old Testament as the Word of God. Jesus had a Jewish mother and was raised a Jew. He kept most of the Jewish customs if they were of the Word of God the Father. The money changers in the Temple were not of God.

He was a Jew. A practicing Jew. He lived the faith, kept the laws, ministered to the Jewish. The Jews believe in a Messiah, the question as to whether or not Jesus was it does not even come into play until after his death. That is Jewish doctrine that came about only after the life of Jesus and then the division in Judaism came. Those that denied Jesus as the Messiah remained Jews those that accepted him were cast out and developed Christianity. But this never played into the Judaism of Jesus' day.

I would suggest history lessons.

The jewish religion talks of a messiah that will fulfill prophesy. The God of the Jews is the same as the God of the Christians. Jesus said he was the messiah of the prophesy and therefore was fulfilling a Jewish prophesy and declaring himself to be the Jewish Gods son and therefore a Jew himself!

Well, like you said before, you understand that he is a part of the Jewish race.
When it is meant by 'King of the Jews' they are referring to the Old Testament when it said that the son of God would appear. The Jews were expecting an Earthly type of King to show up. This King of the Jews is a mockery of Jesus saying that he rules over the Jewish race. His last name is 'Christ' Christian, there's Christ in there...(?)
The Jews were also God's chosen people and He expected them to follow Jesus and his new improved teachings...
I hope this helps

He was raised as a Jewish (religion) child is raised and he went to temple and observed the Jewish law, the turning point would be that he, at the point of realizing who he was, would declare his divinity. So he was dedicated in a Jewish temple, he was raised to be a good Jewish man, and he only departed from traditional Judaism when he realized that as God's Word made flesh, he had the ability to change the Jewish laws. He many times over declared that the 10 Laws given to humanity by God through Moses, should always be honored and followed, He often referred to the Jewish Talmud in providing guidance and explanations in who he was. He said he is the fulfillment of the old testament's prophets' Christ/Savior, so he would then technically just be the fulfillment of Jewish theological prophecy.

Samaritans and other sects near Galilee practiced the Hebrew faith, but were not racially Hebrew or Jewish. They were typically Arab, Syrian or Jewish/Arab mixed.

There are still Samaritans in the region. Less than 800 of them.

There are also mixed religions in the region, even now that practice Islam and Judaism, or Islam and Christianity simultaneously.

The sect that Jesus came from was not a traditional Jewish sect and given the amount of effort the New Testament writers go to trying to convince people that he is legitimately of the lineage of David, it's unlikely that he was actually Jewish, at least not more than mixed.

He was Jewish by descent and a practicer of Judaism. He knew that he was the son of God. Adherents of Judaism nowadays do not believe that and most at that time didn't either, but the first few thousand Christians were Jews who recognized Jesus as the coming Messiah promised in the OT...

Ok, the sign above His head on the cross read Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. He was born of a Jewish mother and His lineage was the house of David (Jewish) He followed all the customs of Judaism. It wasn't until He died on the cross and ROSE on the third day that Christianity began. Jesus was Son of God and Son of Man. God made US in His image. Perhaps if you read the Begats at the beginning of the Gospel...it traces Jesus' lineage all the way to the House of David. If you are a church goer, perhaps you could find a class in your faith (I am Catholic and they do have classes that help people find the answers to these types of questions) or even attend one at another faith to find out more.

Jew is a nationality as well as a religion. When Jesus was born, there was no Christianity. He was raised in the Jewish religion and He was born of the line of David, an Israelite.
