My birds beak is like deformed or something. It is about the lower one. It is bigger than the upper one and grows unlimitedly by the side. I went to the vet. He said he is too busy.
Can u give me some ideas to cure this?

I used to file like fingernail type or use clippers but be careful how far you clip, Safer to file a bit each day if the bird will tolerate the attention. Some Vet's lean more to birds than others.

Yes, you definitely need to find another vet. Board certified avian vets are rare and hard to find but you can at least look for a vet with birds as a substantial part of their practice. Also, good to look for is a vet who is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (http://www.aav.org). Vets have to pay membership and have continuing education requirements to be a member.

Beak deformities can be a mite or from a metabolic disorder. Sometimes birds just have beaks that do not wear down evenly due to the bird's habits, lack of chewing opportunities, or the way their beak has developed. As others have said, your bird eventually won't be able to eat and the overgrown beak concerns me since it could mean a metabolic or liver problem which could ultimately kill the bird. Get it to a vet who treats birds ASAP. Don't try to trim the beak yourself since there are nerves and blood vessels in there.

You didnt say what type of bird.

If a local vet cant help , try a petstore or bird breeder , or an animal resue group.

For a budgie you cab file down the beak , a little each day is best . yOu can actuallu use a nail clipper, there is one for toes that is curved like this ) and cuts a little bite at each cut.

Be very careful if the bird is fighting you because you can crack the beak very badly.

Your vet is a moron. A deformity of the beak can cause all sorts of eating problems, and it's time to get a new vet. You don't keep a vet that tells you he's too busy to see your babies. Period. My vet would get his butt kicked if he ever said such a thing to me and he flat out knows it.

Anyway...there is a myriad of problems associated with beak deformities. So...the best thing is to have a (decent) vet look at him, and then have him trim the beak. I do rescue, and about 50% of the birds that come in here need beaks trimmed.

Try a different Avian vet, not a regular vet, they don't know how to handle birds.

As if he said he's too busy...too busy to help an animal, or too busy to take your money for doing it?

There may not be anything major wrong, just an underbite.. dogs get it too. Find another vet and set up an appt. but don't worry yourself until you know for sure.

It sounds like a case of "Cherpes". It's an untweatable canarial disease.
