Or is there some other explanation?

For example, if I didn't have any affiliation or history with the LDS (Mormon) church, yet I went on and on about bashing them and spent literally years of my life researching them so I could attack them "better", etc... Would you consider me mentally ill or is there a better explanation?

Nacho: No, in this scenario they have done NOTHING to me. They simply believe differently than I do, so I feel the imperative to attack them, to expose their beliefs to everyone.

Lady Lorenzo: No, in this scenario I have no history with the LDS church. I simply think their beliefs are creepy so I've made it my personal crusade to attack them.

Not mental illness. But, someone who needs to get a life, or something. Why do you CARE so much? What are you afraid of? Cause that's what it is, really, fear.

Are you afraid we just might be right?

Sort of... I think that the reasons that people bash the LDS church has to do with the same reasons that Saul wanted to kill David despite his help to his country (1 Samuel, don't remember the chapters). Satan has led them to believe something that deep inside, they know isn't true or they shouldn't be doing it. I think that possibly those ridiculous church bashers may be infested with "devils" as referred to often in the New Testament that Christ cast out of people...

These are all personal hypotheses, but I think that they all play a role in unsolicited attacks, on any religion really. Whether someone is right or wrong, there is no need to go around criticizing other peoples' religions relentlessly.

The better explanation may be that you're insecure in your beliefs or frustrated with the world - and used attacks on what you perceive as an easy target (mormons) to help alleviate that.

However, bashing religions themselves doesn't fall into any mental illness category, except that an extreme amount may verge on an obsession disorder... However most theistic religions suffer from a common delusional disorder. =P

It is called resistance and too much resistance leads to an infirmity of the mind sometimes referred to ironically as brainwashing.
Why? Because the more one focuses on something (like idiocy of any kind, true or not, or anything wanted or unwanted) the more of it is attracted. So choose what is is that you want NOW and its a done deal.
P.S. I was in a cult for over ten years.

Certainly it is extreme egotism if nothing else. To attack someone because they think differently to you?

Yep - I think it is certainly indicative of a psychological disorder and might well be linked to a psychiatric problem.

Their thinking is nothing to do with you - therefore if you find it is hurting you - you are the one with the problem not them.

As a matter of interest do you hate people of different skin colour or nationality? Do you hate the opposite sex?

Get a grip before you lose it altogether!!!!

I would be jealous of a church that was so happy and secure with whatever they believed even if it seemed odd to the average person. I love people who attack the church no matter what. Sometimes I remember they are probably doing what they think is good, it is too bad they have to do it in such a negative way.

I wouldn't say that you were mentally ill. I would want to know why you are so involved in bringing them down. I don't agree in some of there practises. But I wouldn't go into it like you have.

Has anything happened to you to make you react in this way?

addition: Oh okay.

The LDS are attacking you back in some way. Otherwise, then yeah. It's mental.

No, it is just an interest you have. We all have different passions for different reasons. Some people go and study law and fight to change the system or to banish certain laws they think are unjust. It is a little obsessive, but we all have our obsessions right?

Yes, it's called liberalism and it's a mental disorder. However, liberals rarely do any research on a group. They usually harbor a deep seeded hatred with no apparent rationale behind it.
