Its unusual shape results from the fact that its originally intended site, Arlington Farms, fronted on Arlington Ridge Road and the Arlington Memorial Bridge approach, which intersected at an angle of approximately 108 degrees (the angle of a regular pentagon).[3] President Franklin D. Roosevelt had it constructed at its current location because he didn't want the new building to obstruct the view of Washington, D.C. from Arlington Cemetery.[4]
"I forget the exact numbers but there is something like 100,000 miles of hallway in the building." --- IT HAS 17.8 MILES OF HALLWAYS. It doesn't even have 100,000 FEET of hallways.
Next time do your own homework.

"An early plan called for a square structure with one corner cut off to accommodate an existing road. This resulted in a skewed Pentagon shape. "
"17.5 miles of corridors it takes only seven minutes to walk between any two points in the building."
interesting side note:
Construction began on September 11, 1941

I forget the exact numbers but there is something like 100,000 miles of hallway in the building. You can get from any part of the building to any other part in under 6 minutes. Its the shape that made that possible
