People are lying to you. Owning a cat cannot have any effect on your fertility.

The only thing pregnancy-wise that I've heard, is to avoid contact with dirty litter, during your pregnancy, because of bacteria that can cause complications.

Whoever told you that is retarded. Cats have nothing to do with infertility. Unless the guy is wearing the cat as really tight underwear!! Don't worry honey, keep your kitty right where it is, and whoever told you that...the next time they come over,...put your cat in their lap and say "hold her for me for a minute would you? Don't worry, you'll still be able to make babies." God...some people are rediculous.
I'm sure you'll have some beautiful babies someday, with or without the cat.
Oh, and just in case you do get pregnant...don't let anyone tell you that a cat will "take the babies breath away". The only thing you need to watch with a cat is the fact that they like milk, whether it's human or formula. So if the baby spills around his/her neck, there's a chance the cat will try and lick it off and might sit on the babies face. That's the only way they could take a babies "breath away". But cats don't do that very often either.
Matter of fact, I've only had one friend whose cat loved baby formula and tried licking the baby while she was on mommy. She never did go into the crib.

Naw, they won't cause infertility. Think about it, how can an animal so fertile, cause infertility? Besides, back in the day when everyone had 12 kids, you know they had cats around to catch mice, so that makes no sense.

They say that pregnant women shouldn't change the kitty litter, because there is a parasite in the feces that can cause toxoplasmosis. That is only dangerous for people who have never contracted it before, if you have and get it again, there is no risk to the fetus. You can ask your doctor for a blood test to see if you've ever had it. It causes flu-like symptoms so you may have been infected already, and didn't even know it.

Cats get it from eating raw meat (typically from killing mice and small animals). As long as your cat doesn't do that (and lots of indoor cats don't), no worries. That is not the only way to get toxoplasmosis though, you can get it from handling raw meat.

Cat's don't cause infertility, but they can be infected with toxoplasmosis, which can cause birth defects in humans, if they have certain parasites. Indoor cats are very unlikely to catch this disease since they need to either kill infected prey (mice) or come in contact with infected soil. Outdoor cats are more likely to have parasites. It's not unusual for a human to catch this disease from their outdoor cat, but it's not dangerous to adults, so they think they just have a cold. Once you've recovered from toxoplasmosis you're immune to getting it again, so there are no concerns. However, since you can't tell if you've had it before since it's like having a cold, it's best when you're pregnant not to change the kitty litter since the parasites that have the toxoplasmosis may be present in the cat's poop. If you don't have anyone to help you change litter while you're pregnant, then you could wear rubber gloves while doing it. The only way this disease is dangerous to humans is if you have an active infection of it while pregnant.

Don't worry! You and your kitty are perfectly safe and you can still have your own kittens too :)

Cats making a woman infertile has been passed down thru the generations since the dark ages. Cats were the devil's friend and they were associated with witches, so they got a bad rep.

So no, the cat wont give you infertility. When and if you get preg. dont change the litter and try not to lick the cat lol cuz cat saliva is dangerous. It kills birds and has a toxin in it that could harm people if they have compromized immune systems.

so, dont worry. Cats are woman's best friend, so why get rid of them? ^.^

Cat stool has toxoplasmosis in it.Toxoplasmosis is a common infection found in up to 40% of all cat owners. It´s a minor infection that normally does not cause any side effects at all. It comes from a parasite that lives in cat stool. However, the infection can be extremely harmful to a developing fetus. But it does NOT cause infertility

They wont cause infertility lol that's pretty funny someone had to have believed that somewhere down the line. The only issue with cats and pregnancy is that a pregnant woman can't clean the litter because of the ammonia in the urine. that's it :)

Whoever these people are that have told you this, they must be either highly superstitious or very uneducated. Ignore any future "advice" from those people.

The only way I can think of that a cat might cause infertility is if it sank its claws into the right part of a guy and inadvertently performed a vasectomy. (That was a joke, don't suddenly rush out and get your cat declawed.)

I have never heard that they caused infertility, hmmm must not have worked on me. I use to have people tell me that I could not have the cats around my baby because they would take the baby's breath. so this is just an old wise tale that not true.
