Please visit link below for further detail weather forecast and other sight seeing tours, you don't need a winter cloth it's spring there, but could be a little cold in Beijing

Firstly, if you would like to ask either some English speaking university from China, or foreigners living in China this or other such questions, then I would suggest that you visit my new forum: www.daxueyingyu.com/forum.

Right now it is fairly warm, so you don't need winter coats, like another posted said Beijing is similar to NY. Xi'an, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Hong Kong are considerably warmer than Beijing.
HK is a little expensive, but you can find some good deals if you look around enough. All over China, please be aware that counterfeit goods are everywhere. So don't pay regular prices unless you go to an "official" shop. Also you can almost always get a lower price than whatever is initially offered.
Sorry, that I don't personally know of any sight-seeing tours, but if you do decide to go with some tour group be careful as often they will stop at MANY shops and then try to pressure you into buying things. If possible ask them for a very detailed itinerary before you sign up for anything.
Ok, if that is not enough information feel free to contact me and ask for more. I have lived in China for more than one year, so maybe I can offer you some good advice. You can find me through Yahoo or my forum - either is ok, haha but of course I prefer that you check out the forum :)

Good luck with your travels, I am sure you will enjoy the trip!

beijing weather is like NY, Shanghai is like maryland or virginia, International products like Nike and Toyota sell for mostly the same price everywhere, you can't get discountson this type of stuff. You can get a lot of cheap chinese goods though, like clothes, some electronics, instruments and other locally made goods. Even though you'll be getting reamed quite handily in any of the tourist areas. paying up to 4 times too much and more.

Buy a Chang dynasty style clothing, like kung fu clothes, there are very rich silk versions of these clothes in wedding shops. Buy an Erhu, flute, sword, whatever you like.

My best tip for you based on my recent trip (I had never been to China before):::: Bring lots of batteries for any cameras or devices you will be using since many batteries that are sold in China are DEAD. Unless you see them come out of the actual unopened box off the ship do not buy batteries. Bring them. Or, purchase unopened NANFU brand ones (manufactured by Energizer).
