I would go with what your heart tells you. I bought a Co-op over a year ago, and have very primitve country taste, so I went taupe/tan on the walls and accented with reds and blues for the bedding. My furnature is wood stained black. A neutral shade such as a tan or gray always works well to blend with any other color you plan to use with bedding, etc. Benjamin Moore has a beautiful line of interior paints I used in my home called the historic colors collection. I used six different shades in my home. All are neutral, as I went with reds, blues, and black in my decor. It went very well.
I used a great color called Quincy Tan in living room with Monroe Bisque under my chair rail. It looks great.
Good luck.
Also, one other route, which I did in my powder room, is to do a soft blue. It is very peaceful and nice to spend time in a soft blue room. Bedding that comes in blues is quite lovely.

Since it's a small bedroom you're redecorating, I would stick with a pale color, like a really light celery green. You could pair it with white furniture, black and gray accents and photography or other art on the wall. It would be very crisp and calming, and help to relax you and induce sleep. It would also make the room appear larger.

I always like something in the light sage green category. Its a very warm color that can be paired with just about any other color. I've paired it with pink, lavender and blue. I like to paint the walls something that can be used with a lot of other colors that way when I get tired of the color its easy to change the look by just changing the pillows or accents. Very natural and calming to me anyway.
