My husbands ex-wife allowed my grandchildren to stay at her house for a couple days with my step-daughter while we were looking for a babysitter for them. She and I are not close, but I want to thank her for allowing them to stay at her home. I don't know how to word the note without sounding mushy. I really need some help on this one.

I would just say WE would like to thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to allow Jim and Jane to stay with you. They had a wonderful time and it was greatly appreciated.
Thanks again, (your name)

It's really lovely to see such civilized behaviour from ex-spouses!
Obviously the hubby and the ex had problems or he wouldn't be yours now, but it seems like he has good taste in women! Just goes to show that 2 people might not be right for each other, but their is nothing wrong with either:)

I like the suggestion of a gift certificate along with a nice note thanking her for being there when you needed her. You'll probably never be 'close' given that you married her ex, but it seems like you're well on the way to a cooperative relationship. Good luck to you all!

Just thank her for doing you a favor. You don't have to get all mushy, just let her know you appreciate what she did. Keep it civil and polite. It is nice of you to write a thank you note, most people wouldn't even think about writing one let alone actually sending one.
Dear So & So,
Just wanted to say thank you for watching my grandchildren for a couple of days. It was thoughtful of you to do so. Jim (husbands name) and I appreciate the time you took out of your busy schedule to do so, and wanted to you to know.

Thank you again,

This is what I would write. Others here may offer other suggestions. Good Luck

Well get a cute card -- and say

"thanks so much for all your help -- it would have been very difficult for us without it, and I hope that we will be able to help you out if you need it as well!"
