Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.
There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.
While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.
Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.
We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.
With love and prayers in Christ.

Since I am not God and cannot judge, I can only offer an opinion, not a solid answer, so here it goes! I feel that if you do commit suicide you go to Hell because suicide is the MURDER of oneself. I realize murder is a forgivable sin, but how can one get forgiveness of murdering oneself when they're already dead? You can't ask for forgiveness BEFORE you commit the sin, for the Scripture says, "As the tree falls, so shall it lie," meaning that the way your life ends is the way you face God on Judgment Day.

In the Bible, we have some that we conclude were believers who thought of suicide. I think right away of Elijah under the juniper tree, or Jonah under the gourd. Both were in deep depression, which is normally the state of a person contemplating suicide. Samson, who is a man mentioned in the roll call of the faithful in Hebrews 11, committed suicide by bringing the pillars down on himself and his enemies.
While suicide is a type of murder, since it involves taking a life, it is still a sin for which Jesus died. There have been many accounts of murderers being saved, and no one who knows the scripture would deny that a murderer can be saved and forgiven of that deed. Since Christ’s atonement pays for all sins for the Christian, it covers murder and even suicide, but, lest anyone should think that this makes suicide an acceptable option for a Christian, consider this. A Christian will have to answer a very serious question in Heaven should he end his own life. That question will be asked by God, Himself, and it is, "Why did you not choose My best for your life? Could you not trust Me that I knew what was best for you?" You see, His best never involves violating His law. (this is not mine) maybe some help though.

Not necessarily. Suicide is an act of desparation once a person has lost hope.
Suicide is a sin.
But did the victim-perpetrator take his/her final breath in a state of sin, or a state of forgiveness. Those last thoughts that go through their mind are the ones that dictate judgment or salvation.
Jesus said that all manner of sin shall be forgiven, except the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
So, suicide is forgiveable, as long as the forgiveness is sought before that final breath. Coming to our senses after the attempt does not preclude death.

No not at all. Suicide for the sake of just spiting God is another story, but most religions accept that there are facts such as illness, mental and emotional disturbances or stress that mitigates (at least ot some extent) our responsibilty in understand the drastic extent of our actions in cases like suicide.
When we are not of sound judgement allowances have to be made. It is still view as a violation of the natural order, but no all suicides do not go to hell.
edit: for all the people saying catholics believe that suicides go to hell you are wrong. The stance above is from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Remember the first criteria for sin is you have to have FULL understanding and rationale to see how what you are doing is a sin. Suicides don;t have this in their desperation and pain.

Suicide is not a good thing to do, because the spirit of the suicidal goes to a dark place where he is going to suffer for a long time. If he shot himself, the wound will be hurting and bleeding. If he hung himself, the suffocation will be torturing him. Maybe months, maybe years, that depends on how enlightened he is and how much Faith he has.
Spirits from the Spiritual World say that all the suicidal people regret what they did one second after their deaths, because they realized they didn't stop whatever suffering they were going through. In fact, they made things worse.
My religion is Spiritism.
Peace!

The simplest answer is - No. Suicide cannot "reverse" someon's Eternal salvation. In extremely simple words - if a person kills themself they will not lose their salvation in order to be in Hell for Eternity. Contrary to some's belief - once a peson is saved, born again, baptized they can't lose their salvation.
Does commiting suicide as a Christian effects other aspects of their standing with God, that's another question. But, no, a person will not "go to hell" if they commit suicide.
(PS - like another person said - get into the Bible as your source - when Martin Luther was on trial by the Catholic Chuch - he established that the Bible is the only presidence about Christian beliefs, facts, etc. Not tradition or anything else. You can get a free bible at http://www.biblesforamerica.org it has extensive footnotes)

no it does not because once you have been saved you are saved for life and once you ask God to save you thats paying for all the sins you are ever going to commit . think about it this way Jesus died once and came alive again and that paid for everyones sin , if it didnt he would be dieing alot . so if you have asked Jesus for forgivness you are in for the whole deal.
you should probably look in the bible because you might not get the answers you want and you might take advice that isnt true .. im not saying that you will but there is that chance ..
Good Luck

No, because no one (except God) knows the state of that person's soul right before death.
Yes, suicide is a grave sin, but it is near impossible to judge whether there was repentence just before.
We commend every soul to the mercy and justice of God.
God bless you.

according to islam and the qur'an suicide is just a sin,the one who suicides goes straight to hellfire even without judgement because ur soul is not urs to chose when to put to death add to this when u take ur own life from deperation or any other reason that's means that u stopped having faith in God who can solve ur problems if u just ask him and pray for him.but if the one has any mental illness that makes him not reponsible for any of his actions, won't go to hellfire and it's God's well to judge him
