i am thinking of going in december possibly Tobago or Antigua some people are saying go all in and others say go room only ,is food and drink cheap in and outside of the hotels?

It depends on the island and even then, the area of the island.
For example - in Cuba or Dominican Republic you would pay about $1 USD for a beer off the resort, while in Nassau Bahamas you'd pay about $3-5 USD in the tourist areas, about $1 USD at a local place outside of where tourist are.
I personally like AI's because generally speaking they are not that much more and I'd rather not worry about money once I'm on vacation. If I want a beer and I'm in my bathing suit at the beach bar, it's not a hassle. Don't need to carry money, don't need to deal with the wife giving me grief for spending a couple of bucks on a beer etc.
I have done both and I wouldn't go back to a resort that wasn't AI. If we want to go to town (assuming there is one because there isn't always one handy) and go out for a meal then the option is there. If we get lazy and lounge on the beach then we can always hit the buffet. No stress, no hassles - it's a vacation and that's what works for me.

I would honestly say it's even when it comes down to it.
If you enjoy all those specialty drinks and eat 3 meals a day. I would say go all-inclusive. Because the islands can get expensive in the drink department and a nice meal can easily cost you with drinks $100. for two. We have done it both ways and we didn't save any thing either way. My husband likes to know what our vacation will cost upfront, so he loves all-inclusive. I could go either way if it's a island like St Maarten/St. Martin. Gourmet capital of the Caribbean
We are not fast food eaters so our meals are more expensive.
Also you have to find out if restaurants are near your hotel. You add a cab ride on to going non-inclusive, it gets more expensive.
In Antigua, I found the food not cheap. I have never been to Tobago, sorry can't give you any feed back
Sometimes you just have to find out for your self.

Food and drink in Tobago is a hell of a lot cheaper outside of the hotels. It really is not worth the extra to go all in.
P.S. The travel companies like to cirulate a lot of stories about crime etc... in the islands in a (sucessful) attempt to scare tourists into staying inside the all inclusive complexs - dont listen to it - crime exists but it really is minimal.
Go Tobago - try the curry crab!

We went by Superclubs. We stayed at HEDO III and it became large. we are believers interior the all inclusive because those hotels have a tendency to furnish large ammenities each and each of ways round and on the acceptable there aren't any surprises. you may many times get a superior deal Sept-could minus the vacation trips. i'm no longer efficient about hotels which have babies events yet i'm efficient there are a determination of.

I have been on package trips to places like this with everything included and it´s great. But not even close to being as fun as doing trips like this backpacking(assuming your not taking kids along). Me and my travel mate went through all of central America Just sleeping in hostels here and there and it is unbelievable how many empty beaches and lakes we found where we could skinny dip or even more(travel mate was a she) without all the touristic noises and hassle.And its much cheaper outside the touristic places.It´s far from elegant(cockroach here and some food poisoning there) But whats an adventure without risks!

If you're going for a boozy time, then All Inclusive is your best bet. I went to Barbados on my Honeymoon & we stayed at a Sandals resort, which was absolute Paradise, but i could'nt tell you how much it cost as it was a surprise from my husband, but having food & drink on tap is absolute heaven. I'd recommend All Inclusive all the way. Have fun.

I've been to Barbados (5 times, 6 this Friday) and Trinidad part once. It's up to you to what plan you go with, either it be all-inclusive, it may be best that way, or if you are budgetting, go to Pegwell Inn Guest House, it's the cheapest accommodation I know out there! And this place is in Barbados.

I would revommend you to go room only, and et outside the hotel as much as possible. Hotel food is axcelent, however local food, cooked in restaurants outside the hotel are much better.

If u love the sea, sun and sand then u should definately visit the Caribbean. It's a heaven by it self.
U should try Belize! its the most beautiful place to vacation!
