Blasphemy is 'taking the name of your god in vain'. An atheist can therefore say 'oh my god' without blasphemy as he doesn't believe in a god.

By taking God's credit, giving someone/something else credit for an act obvioiusly done by God, or equating yourself with God.

A good example of blasphemy is in Pulp Fiction. After Jules read exerpts of a scripture and shot the guy, another dude with a huge gun came out from the back and fired shots. None of the shots hit Jules or Vincent although they both should have been dead. The fact that Vincent doesn't acknowledge the act of "Divine intervention" is blasphemy. Gosh I never thought that I'd be discussing Pulp fiction in this thread.

Some of the reason why the Jews cruxcified Jesus is because they thought He was commiting blasphemy by equating Himself with God.

I also believe one of the New Testament Kings commited this act and dropped dead on the spot. Of course I don't remember who it was maybe someone else will name him.

Also many give "Lady Luck" credit for things that God should get credit for. They'll quickly say I'm lucky instead of saying God blesses me even though I don't always deserve it..

the Bible says that blasphemy is the only sin that will not be forgiven and that blasphemy is lying against the Holy Ghost (Borat commited blasphemy in his movie when he pretended to receive the Holy Ghost)

Blasphemy is saying something against the beliefs of any group of people - in their presence. If no one is around to be offended, it's not blasphemy.

To blaspheme is to say something against God that YOU KNOW not to be true. To make such a statement or perform such an act and stand upon its premises and repercussions is blasphemy.

Blasphemy is taking the Lord's name in vain or mocking him with silly question like so many do on yahoo.

defamation of the name and God. It is done all the time by mischaracterizing him. My guess will be most of the answers will say cursing and taking the Lord's name in vain.

"Blasphemy? No, it is not blasphemy. If God is as vast as that, he is above blasphemy; if He is as little as that, He is beneath it."
