My fiance gave me a list of songs he wants played at our reception. I'm downloading music and burning to a disc so we don't have to pay a DJ. Can anyone help me to find FREE mp3, wav, or wmp files for these songs: What a Wicked Thing to Do by Chris Isaac, Feels Like Coming Home by Bon Jovi, Shining Star by the Spinners (we think), and Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone by Al Green (we aren't so sure about that one). I really appreciate any help you can give.

The best known version of Ain't No Sunshine was done by Bill Withers, and Shining Star was The Manhattans. Wicked Games is the name of the Chris Isaak song

Instead of downloading, try your local library for CDs. You can usually find eveyrthing you're looking for there. Also, hit up your friends, and while you're at it, maybe you can find one of them that would be willing to play DJ for the night?

We did the same thing! We bought an awesome DJ system from Sam Ash, rented a subwoofer and used a program that has DJ turntables that when you playlist the songs, it does that merging technique where one fades into the next one (email me and I'll look for the name of that program for ya). Set up the playlist more than a week in advance (I let my groom completely be in charge of that) and let it play. It was great! A friends boyfriend was trying to break into the DJ business so we let him do the introductions of the family and the wedding party. We didn't like doing the individual announcements b/c I dont think anyone cares who all your bridesmaids are. We introduced the parents of the bride, the parents of the groom and then just "The Groomsmen" and "The Bridesmaids". (He forgot to introduce things like when we were going to toss the bouquet though, so I just sorta shouted it out)

For anything we were lacking, we used limewire to download it. But also borrowed from friends. With so many people having I-Pods now days they don't even realize how many mp3s they have on their computers. My boss gave me his sons harddrive (it had died and my husband is an electrical engineer). He figured out how to get everything off the harddrive and onto CDs for my boss and we copied all the mp3s he had on it. Between just a couple friends we ended up with more than 15,000 songs to go through. More than likely, you know SOMEONE who owns the cd or mp3 already.

Best of all, now anytime we have a party we have a killer sound system! We use it all the time.

I know you didn't ask - but just wanted to point out that a wedding DJ does so much more than push "play". He announces your entrance, and key events like the father-daughter dance (or whatever). A good DJ will know how to keep the party going - how to shift gears between music genres so that ALL of your guests feel included. Some even work in entertainment, and can do trivia about the bride and groom if there's a buffet line or something. Most of all, he will know how to manage the sound for any size room - something most home systems can't do very well.

If you still want to burn your own disc - make SURE you equalize all the tracks so they all play at the SAME volume. Otherwise you'll be dashing across the room a lot.

The better entertained your Guests are, the longer they will stay. You don't want to drive them away. Especially if you've paid to rent a place for 3 or 4 hours? Or even just gone through a lot of trouble to decorate.

I am sorry, but the most help I can give you is do NOT do this. I've seen it done, and it doesn't work. You won't pick enough songs, and your guests will want to hear songs that you didn't burn. And trust me, guests get testy when they want to hear songs they like (especially if they're popular), and they can't be played. To host a good party, you need to get a DJ.

As the Blue Bird of Happyness would say. "Cheep - Cheep - Cheep" or is it Cheap - Cheap - Cheap?
