Since they didn't have the technology we have today?

I would imagine that the flood only posed danger to the visible-2-the-naked-eye animals that needed to be openly exposed to oxygen in order to survive.

That wasn't s'posed 2 b a joke, now, was it???

I guess that's a deep question or one that you want to have debated.
If you are sincere, than I would say that the Bible is highly symbolic and so so much, not literal. Did those things really happen in history. Yes. How did those events happen? The Bible realy isn't a history book or a scientific book - it's ultimately about Christ. (The Ark was a symbol of Christ and His being the ressurection when there is total death. His being a refuge from wrath, the Father God's covenant with man...)
