Get a puppy. Take it outside at least once an hour. it will take a couple weeks but if you stick with it it shouldnt be too bad. And when it does pee on the carpet a real good stain/smell remover is Urine Trouble. You can get it at walmart

Even if the dog is already house trained, he is almost sure to have at least one accident in a new home. He won't know where the door is or how to signal to you that he needs out. We got our first dog when he was 6 months old and he was mostly trained already, but he still had a few accidents in the new place. It would only smell badly if you didn't clean it up. If you clean the mess and use a pet odor remover, or even some diluted vinegar, there will be no smell. In fact, you must use some sort of deodorizer meant for animal smells. If the dog smells the accident he will think that is where he is supposed to go and dogs can smell much better than us.

The best place to find any dog is by contacting your local breed club or akc chapter. You can get the information from the akc website.

If you can't stand the thought of a dog having accidents in your house, DON'T get a puppy. Even the quickest house-training jobs take some time, and the puppies simply cannot learn without making mistakes. It's hard to get a dog who has already been house-trained. I would suggest going to a shelter to adopt a rescued dog, because you might have better luck with a dog who is a little older as far as the house training goes... However, an older dog is harder to train, so it will be even more difficult if they have never been trained before, and unfortunately, you hardly ever get a real solid history on a rescued dog... Above all, I think that if you are not willing to train and maintain a pet, you should not be getting one.

There is a way to get the dog housetrained, just take him to your local pet shop and put him into behavioral classes and they teach him everything.

I suggest checking the newspaper or local kennels and human societies for certain breeds that you may want. But chow chows are very unpredictable dog and they do not make the best of family pets. Samoyed is a very good family breed though.

Really though if you are worried about the smell of a carpet then why are you getting a medium or large sized dog? If you like chow chow then you may also want to check into a Pomeranean, a Shih-Tzu, or even a small or medium sized mix dog may be a good choice. I have a Shih-Tzu, Lab, Boston Terrier mix that looks like a very small husky-dog. Very cute. And most small dogs can be trained to potty in a kitty litter box, and there is much less to worry about.

I suggest going to the library and researching dog breeds, dog training and dog ownership . This way you will be well prepared when the time for adopting a dog does arrive. Good luck!
