His name was Sven Kegorator, a mechanic from Sweden. He came up with the idea after a party when all of his kegs of beer were warm and undrinkable.

He died penniless in a public park in 1968.

Beer has been put in barrels/kegs long before cans, bottles, or glassware was invented. A more accurate question might be who invented refrigeration (wikipedia has a good article on that).

I would bet that beer was among the first things kept cold in the first refridgerator!
