I think you wrote the quote wrong, but i think the point that is trying to be made is that knowledge is like a flame. If you have that flame of knowledge you should spread it to light everyone's candle. In other words, spread your knowledge to others.

I would say it means if you have the information, share it with other so that they may expand their own knowledge. A good example would be to become a teacher so that you can share what you know with your students.
