I'm trying to figure out which gym I should start going to, and I'd appreciate your advice.I'm in Detroit, so I doubt I'll have good options. Lifetime doesn't have anything here, nor does 24 hour fitness. But Bally's has a bunch of locations.

I've read you need to sign a 3 year contract... is this true? The whole reason for joining a gym would be to get in shape so I can join the Marines this November and get out of Detroit, so a 3 year contract would be incredibly wasteful for me. Can you sign a 1 year contract, or something of that nature? I can't get any answers out of their website until they call me. Also, how do gyms generally handle personal trainers? I'd like to have someone to embarass me into working hard, and tell me what I'm doing wrong and whatnot, but I assume this costs more money. How much do personal trainers generally cost at national gyms?

Other gyms nearby are Powerhouse gym, Tighten Ups gym, Fitness USA
Any other good gyms to recommend?

I understand you can't give me a definite. I'm hoping for ballpark estimates. Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

Different gyms have different contract policies, so, your best bet is to actually call or go there & talk to them. They also may cut you a break if you tell them that you are not planning on being around your area for too long due to the military. (most places will accodomate people either in the military or going to be in it)

I honestly cannot tell you how much a trainer in your area or gym would cost, as different places & people have different prices. Different gyms also have different rules/regulations about outside personal trainors (as most gyms like you to use theirs). Some gym packages will actually come with some training sessons. If yours does not, you can tell them what type of trainor you are looking for and ask them for suggestions.

well some have a program where if u tell them what u are doing they may allow u to do a one year contract. a good personal trainer wont push you to hard to do things u cant do.
