CS Lewis was never much of an atheist, IMO. His whole shtick is very weak. He was raised in a religious household and just took a vacation from religion for a while.

'The Inklings' were not exactly ignorant to other faiths. One of Lewis' friends was Charles Williams. Anybody know anything about him?
Were there any atheists in the literary group mentioned above? Of course there were. Who were they?
You are no longer ignorant, as I have shed some, although minimal, light on the subject.
You kind of discredit yourselves with the answers, and some of the questions. It doesn't take much effort to put together better questions, in my humble opinion.

That is basically what it is.
Most people in search of something greater than themselves grasp at straws. In the West (Especially greater than 20 years ago) the biggest and most available straw was Christianity.
I'm sure if Lewis had done the research he would have found all religions to have equal proof.

He was a childhood "christian" so he probably just went back to what he knew.
I don't know if you could even call him a "real" atheist though, because he once said that he was angry at god for not existing.
