Why is only islam blamed for promoting polygamy?

Islam is the only religion in the world that restricts the no of wives to four. No other major religion restricts a man to any no of wives whether hinduism,zoroastrianism,judaism,christianity,buddhism,jainism etc. i don't know about sikhism but it came after islam.Also in islam second wife is allowed only in certain situations but no such conditions in other religions.

It is a great discovery that other religions permit polygamy. But this discovery is from dreams. Hindu's could have married any number of wives, but this is not because Hindu religion prescribed this. Hindu religion does not interfere with individual's chices. There is no human being in Hindu religion to decide about religious matters as is the case with Christianity ( Church/ Pope) or Islam (Mullahs). However, the Hindu Marriage Act enacted by the so called secular Govt. of India legally binds a Hindu Indian National to a single spouse, but the Indian Muslims do not want such restriction to apply to them. There is no Islamist who will publicly seek such law be enacted to forbid multiple wives for a Muslim Indian male.
That is the real difference. That is what makes Muslims, not Islam, great polygamy promoting community.

that is the way issues go lately. A Muslim does some thing undesirable, he receives headlines. A non-Muslim does some thing undesirable, in all likelihood no individual exterior the community will discover out. further, at the same time as some Muslims react to provocation with violence, the media comments it as "Muslims killed ... Hi! Its a very good question that you have asked. I am a muslim so I could tell you the reason in much specific & appropriate way.

If you read "Quran" you could find that the polygamy was introduce when the no. of warriors death increased during the wars & becoz of this no. of widows eventually increases who were left over alone with their small children where their was no one to protect her from the men with lusty thougths , who could easily rape her at any time. So inorder to protect the women &to provide her the basic needs of day- to -day lfe the polygamy is introduce. But there are certain conditions that a man have to follow before being getting married to more than one women these are :
1) The man should be equal & just to all his wives.
2) He should love all his wives equally.
3) If he brought a present than it should be same & equal to all his wives.
4) The man has to give equal comfort to all his wives.
5) He have to provide equal quality of education to all his childern without considering the individual mathers.etc

If the man is unable to follow these rules than he is not allowed to have more than one wife.

Moreover the man is allowed only to have four brieds at a time becoz their could be a chance that the man would not be able to following the above mentioed conditions in proper manner.

I just want to answer to the ediot person who refers himselfe/herself as 'No Name'. How could you only blame muslims to be the rapist & the most egar person to do sex ? I think you should find out that it is the only muslim countries where the no.of women raped is the least. People of other religions like the Hindus & Christian etc are only who rape the women on the large scale without considering the age of that women. Cant you see the ameican solders are raping so many women in the contries like Iraq where they are send by America.

If you read "Quran" you will find out that if a person rape's a woman then he shall be hand over to the public & the people could beat him till his death so that the other men will not have the courage to rape any other women in the future.

It is not Islam alone that promotes polygamy.
as one can see in the answers, it seems even the Christian text contains the pages that prove that polygamy was promoted the.

Every ruler of any country ( except the Epic King Rama alone)
.all have one Royal Queen and so many other wives ,married religiously.Later they were put in harem or Anthahpuram.Some rulers had thousands of wives, they even forgot who was who.

But it was realised , out of experience that it is not good (Polygamy)
So, they made religious amendments and now majority of religions in the world permit only one wife to a man and one husband to a woman.That way the society is safe and law and order can be well maintained, and family life will be very happy and comfortable,With all this in mind our elders decided to against polygamy.

It is up to elders to think the merits and demerits and do the necessary thing.

because Islam alone gives a systematic sanction to polygamy. It may have reasons rooted in its past but, of late, it's creating sort of baby-boom in Muslim countries and great discomfort and suspicion to other communities in pluralistic societies. Few things degrade women more than the concept of polygamy. The individuality, so sought after by nice women, vanishes in thin air when Mullahs interpret polygamy as something holy and in keeping with the great Islamic traditions. Islam is not the only religion "blamed" for polygamy lol The entire Old Test shows men marrying more than one woman... the Mormons used to (they dropped this almost a century ago) allow polygamy. Ancient Pagans allowed Polygamy according to their culture. And actually, there are conditions... it's according to their culture.

The present indian law allows polygamy ONLY for Muslims. For people of ANY other religion, polygamy is a punishable crime regardless of what their religion has to say about it.

Even so, I don't feel muslims are blamed for polygamy, it was an accepted practice all over the world, but times have changed and all religions teach us to be law-abiding citizens.

polygamy is widely practice by the christians in africa (catholics, priotestants,and even evangelicals) and their respective church leaders in western countries find that acceptable. But if they talk about polygamy in islam,they freak out and use the harshest words of condemnation in the dictionary that they can find. It is not about polygamy it is about islam. many people are not oppose to polygamy per se but to islam. Their hatred towards islam is so great that they can not find rationality in islamic teaching.
