wait a few years. I was so horrible to my poor parents at that age. Now I call my parents almost everyday for help with the baby, the finances, the house, because they know everything! I could've saved myself a lot of heartache if I had have just listened to them as a teenager but there seems to be some sort of wall in a teenage girls head that prevents what they hear from actually getting to the brain.

that's a hard thing to do. i'm 24 and in just the past 2-3 years have realized that my mom and step-dad didn't want to make me miserable they wanted to make me aware. that hey, they're pretty smart and knew what they were talking about. now i go to them for advice, but in those teenage years everyone is dumb and has no idea what they are talking about. you should be supportive of your daughter and when she screws up (i did majorly) greet her with open arms as you say "i told you so" and let her know that she can't do anything to make you not love her and you will always be there. those actions have built a beautiful relationship between myself and my parents it just took me growing up some (ok a lot) to get there. good luck in this journey, for lord's sake you'll need it.

I agree. Some teens just don't learn until they need something and then they realize that mom and dad were right. Like when we try to protect them from getting pregnant and they don't listen and go out here and get pregnant. Then they realize how hard it is to be a parent and raise a baby. Then they look to us parents for money, etc. and we say "we tried to tell you, but you just wouldn't listen." She will learn even if it is the hard way. Good Luck.

Teenagers don't realize their parents are there to help them. She will when she gets older and becomes a parent. I know first hand because I was the same way. It took me getting pregnant with my son at 19.

Love this question, can't wait to see answers.
Had 17 yr old daughter and we went through really rough spots. When she was 19, she made this comment....
Mom, you're lucky you have "Little brother" because he won't be as bad a teenager as I was........
I could only stare and wanted to laugh, isn't 19 still considered "teenager"?
Have hope, strength and consistency. It will come around.

Good luck with that. Did you listen to anything your parents said at that age? She just has to grow out of it, like every other teenager in the world.

You really cant. She will realize it in a few years when her brain is fully matured, and then the light will go on. Then she'll have a baby and she'll really get it. I'm 27 with a 21 month old and this is exactly what happened to me.

You probably can't. I mean you know how 17 year olds are they think they know everything but in fact they know nothing. You'll just have to wait a few years before they realize that their parents do know something.

NOTHING!!!! Sorry but you can do absolutely nothing. when i was 16 i was the same way and got pregnant and i still thought my mom was stupid and didnt know anything. Now 4 years later i realize shes not so stupid. You just have to wait until she gets older and realizes she doesnt know everything.
