I had glanced over the little plastic fish people affix to their vehicles many times before I noticed that the lettering reads, "fish." I had a pretty good laugh and began to wonder how many people with those fish know what it says. Christians, are you aware that your fish say, "fish?"

...the Man:

This is very interesting. I was aware that the fish was an important symbol, but had no idea as to the acronym. Though it has no bearing on me, I am somehow glad that there's more to it than just "fish."

Yes the fish symbol or "ichthus" symbol was an early designation for Christians. If you ever visit the ancient site of Corinth there is a fish symbol with an arrow carved into the street dating to the late 1st or 2nd century. The fish symbol was pointing the way to the assembly of Christians.

It is also an acronym: (according it wikipedia)
I is the first letter of the word Iesous (Ιησους), Greek for Jesus.
CH are the first letters (in Greek one letter) of the word Christos (Χριστóς), Greek for Christ.

TH are the first letters (in Greek one letter) of the word THeou (Θεοῦ), genetive case of Θεóς, Greek for God.

Y is the first letter for Yios (Υἱός), Greek for Son.

S is the first letter for Soter (Σωτήρ), Greek for Savior.

Not a Christian but I know that the fish symbol is huge to their mythology. Jesus was the 'fisher of men'' the time he existed was the beginning of the pisces era, the fish symbol came from a mathematical diagram of two circles intertwined and the area of the space where the two circles are together is 157 (something)-which is the # of fish his first two disciples drew in their nets in one of his first allegories
There may be more (I'm not sure) in the book 'The Jesus Mysteries'
