You're making an assumption that all people are on the same level mentality, and as well, you are assuming truth is an absolute.
What if the President lies to another nation to get our soldier prisoners back?
What if a lawyer manipulates the wording of your trial to win?
What if a mentally disabled person lies blatantly but does not understand it?
What if a English as a second language person misstates a certain truth due to improper translation?
The point is that different people, under different situations interpret differently how they know if they are lying or not. Hence, making truth not an absolute where God can tell you "you should have known" is incorrect because a lot of people just don't have the good sense or intellectual ability to decide so.
So, in conclusion, we can say "a lie" falls in that "Grey-area" that is dependent upon many other factors.

A lie is when we know what the truth is and we choose not to tell it. That means a lie can also be a lie when you don't tell some one something my not saying anything at all. If later you find out that you have told someone something that wasn't the truth you can always go make and make an amends. God doesn't expect us to be perfect, remember he's the only one that's Perfect.

A lie is a statement that does not match the "knowledge" behind it..... to believe one thing and say another. Even if you believe complete nonsense and state what most people accept as "truth", it is still a lie.
The notions of fallacy behind it all are arbitrary. Everything is fundamentally false on some level (as there is no objective truth)... but not everything is an act of informational diversion.
It is impossible to lie without knowing it therefore (short of not being in conscious control of one's own actions). One would need not to know what one knows in order for that to work, and that clearly is a meaningless statement.

Many atheists were brought up religious but found the belief of god illogical. If your god is all powerful and all benevolent, he should give people the irrefutable proof so that all sufferings and conflicts cease. If we are being judged by what we believe not how we seek the truth, then he is not all powerful nor all benevolent.
Religions and god are created by people and a god who is all powerful and all benevolent does not exist.

There are little white lies that don't hurt anyone, but flat out lying is something you can repent on here while you are living.I believe that if you know you've lied then tell someone your sorry and if you really mean it and don't do it again I truly believe God would have forgiven here and you don't have to worry about in heaven...by the way ...none of my business but your not lying about something really bad i hope

There appears to be a general society's (dictionary's )definition to a lie and then of course the legal community has standards in defining a lie and then the scripture(s) view of a lie. For example,
"...When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition..." John 8:44

A lie is deliberately stating something that is false with the knowledge that it is not truth.
A lie is also something that is not true. Believing a lie is not sin, it is stupidity.
Truth is absolute. There is no gray area.

A lie is a false statement deliberately presented as true. It is not a lie to state something false that one honestly believes to be true. That's an error.

A lie is to say something that one knows is not true, to willfully deceive with words. You can't lie without knowing that you're lying, that's just being mistaken.
