When I work out on my treadmill it's sometime hard for me to jog and I resort to just brisk walking. How can I be more successful with jogging instead of just walking. I feel like my heart is coming through my chest when I do anything over 25 min of jogging. What I usually do is just finish out my 1hr with a brisk walk which is much better for me to manage.

Any suggestion is welcome...

Running isn't necessarily better than walking. You can get a really good workout by brisk walking. Also, running does a lot of damage to the knees whereas studies have show that peope who walk have less injuries and are very healthy. Try the following to vary up your routine.

1. Brisk walk with an incline. When you have an incine you force your muscles to work harder and burn more. You will sweat and burn lots. Try an incline starting at 6.0 and every 5 minutes increase it by .5. You can also do cross overs (like grapevines--waling sideways on the treadmill, or walk backwrds on it to use different muscle groups. I would lower the speed untilyou get used to those at first.

2. Invervals: intervals are really good for you because it continually makes your heart rate go up and down making your body continually work and burn that get used to the execise. You can do 2 min of brisk walking, 3 min of running (or whichever ratio works for you). Another really great interval routine my personal trainer gave me is this

Warm up: 4min
Run (very fast): 1 min
Brisk walk: 1 min
Run: 2 min
Walk: 2 min
Run: 3 min
Walk: 3 min
Run: 4 min
Walk: 4 min
Run: 5 min
Cool down: 1 min
This is a 30 minute work out, but you can extend it if you want (simply ensure you are always running 1 minute more than you are walking). You will sweat lots! Also, remember that you don't need to exercise for 60 min every time. 30-45 min is good 4-5 times a week.

Are you overweight? I ask because for most overweight people it is very difficult to jog at first. It happened to me so I just walked for an hour in the treadmill and went home. But now that I lost a few pounds I can jog and don't get as tired as before.

Give it some time until you get used to exercising regularly if that's the case

Jack up the incline!! If you are brisk walking you need to have the treadmill set on a fairly steep incline. When I am tired of jogging I put my incline at 4.0 and my walk speed at 4.0 and I powerwalk. The intensity level is the most important, make sure you are walking as fast as you possibly can!

running consumes more calories per unit of distance than walking. For a person who weighs 70 kilograms (about 154 pounds), walking at 5 kilometers per hour (3.1 miles per hour) consumes 50 calories per kilometer, whereas running at 10 kph (6.2 mph) consumes 78 calories per kilometer.
Running is certainly more of a workout per unit of time, but if your idea is that 15 minutes of running equals 30 minutes of walking, forget it--sustained exertion is the key. BUT if you are having a hard time keeping up you are doing exactly what you are supposed to do, finish with a brisk walk and don't forget to cool down and stretch AFTER your workout!

i think they are about the same.
running can damage your knees, while walking briskly does not.
