If your rocking back, your off balance, so flick a jab to reset and follow it with a straight right. Hooking off the jabs works well if you are more comfortable with inside work, but beware of hooking with a hooker, their counters usally are tough to avoid.

Bluedevil nailed it. A straight counter right hand will land most of the time because the hooker is off balance if the hook misses, especially a wide hook, you can step right up into it and unload a straight right right down the pipe. Holyfield nailed Tyson with a lot of counter right hands in their first fight after making him miss or rolling with the big left hook that Mike was trying to land. Watch a tape of that fight, Holyfield neutralized one of Mike's best weapons.

Step inside and throw a straight right hand flush on the chin followed by a double left hook to the body and head.

a jab followed by a straight right hand is a great choice for a right handed fighter. A southie could follow up with a counter hook for knockdown potential.
