With so many people quitting smoking and taking up chewing gum, I have had no choice but to notice that cracking gum seems to have become a sport. Is it just me, or didn't anyone else's mother teach them that cracking gum and chewing with your mouth open is rude? Is this supposed to be attractive?

I think chewing gum is disgusting!
Who wants to see people constantly masticating (chewing) and then spit it out on the pavement, or stick it on tables and things! It costs fortunes to be cleaned off our streets. It should be taxed much higher to cover the cost of removal.

We have been taught not to chew with our mouths open we just do it any how. Also we crack our gum to give us something to do, because we're bored, and a number of other things. I would rather crack gum than do a number of other things. I really don't notice it, it is a part of the backgrounds of life and not everyone spits their gum out on the ground or puts it under tables and things like that. I know I don't.

Yes, my mother taught me those things - and I don't chew gum with my mouth open. But cracking gum is another thing. It's just sooo much fun and I can't resist; it's like popping bubble wrap. I do try to only do it in private, though.

ughhhh I hate this. I have noticed people who are supposed to be adults cracking thier gum during lecture, business mettings, etc. IT is very rude.

I have noticed lately that a lot of people do not have manners. Grown adults, 30, 40, 50 even 60 years old are downright rude, obnixous, ignorant and ill mannered. I don't get it. Im talking about your basic manners that you are supposed to be taught by at the latest the age of 10.

I honestly don't know how people even notice cracking gum. It just blends with the background to me. I'm sure the people doing it don't notice, either. I guess I just focus on things that are a little more important.

Most of the time I'd much rather listen to someone cracking their gum than listen to most people speak.

I don't mind if people chew gum, I think in the office it's inappropriate. I think that if you do it, you should keep your mouth closed. It's just like having food in your mouth. Seriously people, have some class.

Oh I thought I was the only one! I was taught that chewing gum was a bad habit, period. I don't let my kids have it either (unless they're working out an ear infection or we're in an airplane).

It is incredibly rude and makes a disgusting sound. However, what would you rather have--someone cracking gum in your ear or blowing smoke in your face?

The nicotine gum isn't supposed to be chewed like regular gum. There is no reason for this behavior.
