1. Parents' Number of Family Members in 2007-2008

2. Parents' Number in College in 2007-2008 (Parents Excluded)

We are 4 members. My dad, my mom, me and my younger brother. I am going to attend college from September this year.
My brother goes to 11th grade. None of my parents go to any school.

On my SAR I was asked to make necessary changes on those questions.

Read the comments on your FAFSA results (called a Student Aid Report or "SAR") carefully. Very often, they are simply asking you to double-check the information and make changes only IF necessary. Sometimes they "flag" (question, or mark as questionable) a student's data when the information is different from the previous year. Other times, they flag it if it seems suspect (i.e. if a family of 10 claims to be subsisting on $10,000 a year or if *everyone* in the household says they are in college).

You should be writing "4 in household and 1 in college" on your FAFSA. Go back and check your submitted FAFSA. If this is what it says, you shouldn't need to make any changes.

Finally, check the top of your FAFSA. It should say "Dependent." If it does, you're OK. If it says "Rejected Dependent," then you do need to fix something. If you're not sure what that is, ask your Financial Aid Office for clarification.

The first question is asking for the members of your household including your parents + any children under 24. Which for your case it should be 4.

Children 24+ or other relatives may be included if they live in the household but proof will be required of actual expenses for those members.

The second question is how many of those children under 24 are attending college. Which in your case would be 1

Even if your parents were attending college you would not include them as attending in this question in your FAFSA.

You should be able to to back to the FAFSA website and make the necessary changes by clicking on Make corrections to a Submitted FAFSA.

#1-They want the number of people living in your household that mom and dad are supporting during 2007-2008. So in your case, its 4.

#2-They want the number of people going to college in your household, with the exception of mom and dad. That would be 1, that's you.

They are asking about the number of family members living with your parents. include those that your parents support 1/2 the time. #2 asks about the # kids your parents have in college like you or ur brothers and sisters. If u are still not sure contact your schools career center or guidance counselor.
