Vitamin C may only be useful in case of a cold if you have low levels of this nutrient to begin with. The likelihood of success may be very individual -- some people improve, while others do not, so if it works for you continue taking them.

The normal daily requirement of vitamin C is about 70 mg. for an adult. As it is a water soluble vitamin and not fat soluble, it cannot be stored in the body. The excess is excreted in the urine. Therefore, mega doses do not help, as was previously believed.
