what are the jobs that the bridesmaids are supposed to do?

Their duties involve helping to throw a bridal shower--however the maid/matron of honor hosts this event, purchasing their own clothing for the wedding, travel expenses to/from the wedding, and a gift for the wedding. However, many brides will have her bridesmaids help with little chores involved with the wedding planning, but a word of caution here, some brides will start treating their friends like indentured servants, and they're not. The best thing to do is to go over what all you expect each of them to do to help you with the wedding planning. If you expect them to help out with assembling invitations, then tell them that. If you expect them to be at every single dress fitting of yours, tell them that. If you expect them to give up every Saturday between now and your wedding helping you with flower selection, caterer selection, music selection, etc., tell them (and then expect them to tell you bye). The best advise I can give you is to be up front and honest about what expectations you have of your bridesmaids, preferably WHEN you ask them to serve. That way there are no miscommunications and no hurt feelings.

Here's a good article from theknot.com

Your job, basically, is to do what the bride needs and asks of you.

It includes, but is not limited to:
-purchasing your bridesmaid dress (usually chosen by the bride)
-wearing the shoes/accessories/hairstyle the bride requests (not all brides will request this)
-attending all bridal events--engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner and (MOST IMPORTANT!) wedding
-helping to pay for the bridal shower and bachelorette party
-keeping the bride calm on her big day
-helping her get ready
-doing errands she needs on the wedding day or before the wedding (such as helping her to get what she needs for the bathroom baskets, or getting the ring from the groom, making sure everything she needs for the ceremony is ready and available)
-keeping the family members happy and calm

Realize that being a bridesmaid is a big job! If you can't handle the responsibility, don't accept! But, it is a fun and fantastic opportunity to have (despite the dress sometimes!)

The job of the bridesmaid is to simply to be available when you need them to be. You may need them for fittings for dresses, which they are soley responsible for. You may need them for the rehersal, or hair and make-up for the big day. Maid of Honors are usually responsible for the bridal/bachelorette party but the bridesmaids can offer help with organziation or sugguestions.
Good Luck!!!!!

Whatever the bride and groom want them to do.

Mainly they are there for support for the bride during her day. Make sure she eats/drinks and hold her bouquet.
