I dont wana annoy people but I keep hearing that america kicked Britains *** in the Revolutionary War which is simply not true.

For a kickoff all the "americans" were infact British colonies made up of British people. So infact it was really British vs British. The americans/british people didnt like the fact that they were treated differently to those in Britain even though they were British.

Also you had the French on your side so it was 2 vs 1 hardly fair but we still went with it. I can understand the yank/brits were annoyed because they were treated unfairly so really it was a kind of civil war across the atlantic.

I think alot of Americans dont know how Britain made your country. We had massive influence and helped created some of what America is today, So i guess you can thank the Brits on both sides!

You have to remember aswell that it took 2 months to cross the atlantic so getting alot of troops there would had been a real pain. That was a big help to the americans not that they were americans at that time.

I have nothing but respect for the British. I wasn't around during that time.... :)
But I think that most of us know this information.
Also it wasn't just the British that were here...there were people from all over Europe. The massive flood of immigrants didn't just start after the war. It had been going on for quite some time before the war even started.

Well you know the French contribution was primarily naval and is often overstated as perhaps is that of the German mercs used by Britain.

The Brits got thrased at Saratoga and that's a military fact. You boys had some good soldiers there and they got beat. There were lots of solid British victories as well. For a long time it didn't look good for the colonies, but we persisted and you Brits had continental worries in addition to rebellious colonies. You were definitely distracted.

Now my ancestors were Scots-Irish who traveled over the Blue Ridge to defeat Patrick Ferguson's boys at the Battle of Kings Mountain. Now that is one of the most complete victories of the war and set in motion Cornwallis' move to Yorktown and the finale.

And yes to a big extend American Patriots and American Tories did battle it out from time to time. That was certainly true at Kings Mountain, but in the end it was the defeat of the British Regulars that sealed the deal.

The french did no arrive until almost just before Yorktown so the military contribution was overrated. The Soldiers of the revolution were of scotch-Irish, English, German, Irish, French, and African-American. The colony was also divided between rebels and loyalist (Tories). So the Americans never had numbers on their.
The British had professional soldiers from Britain and Germany in addition to Indian allies. Supporting them was the best Navy in the World.
The American lost most of their battles but like the NVA one the ones that counted.

Well i think we all know that the French didnt give a care in the world about us!

Never have, and never did!

And further more:

*Youre right!!!!!

The Red Coats handed it to us to begin with. Our armies were annihilated, and colony after colony after colony fell to the Brits.

But we did something that shocked the world: we fought guerilla style. Yea, they werent ready for that.

Remember the Patriot? Good movie.

Going up against the Red Coats on land was a mistake, and it showed after we lost almost every battle, but will power succeded.

So the Brits won the kill ratio and the battles, but we won the war.

Don't forget, we yanks also got the French to declare war on you Brits to take some of the pressure off of us. We also did some sneaky things not becoming civilized people - attacking on Christmas morning, slipping away during a fight unnoticed, attacking from unprepared rank in file without giving you lobsterbacks a change to form ranks, so on and so forth.

No, really, we yanks (which is Dutch for Yunk, which means "Redneck") were fighting a superpower, and scrapped together every trick in the book to get our independence. It took 5 long, hard years. When you came back during that little tiff we call the War of 1812, you paid us back in spades.

Still, I tend to think it worked out for the best, don't you? Didn't do too bad over here, for a bunch of religious zealot rednecks.
