Many of the package deals are to heavy tourist locations so it kind of depends on what you are looking for. Many of those tourist locations are very busy and crowded, so if that is what you are looking for, then that may be the best way to go. However, if you are looking for somewhere quiet, peaceful and romantic, look for something away from the normal tourist destinations.

My wife and i went on a cruise for our honeymoon in December, and loved it. It cost a little over $2000, but we had to fly down to Miami from Georgia during Christmas holidays so plane tickets were through the roof. I think that Carnival (the line that we used) has atleast a couple of ships that leave from Galveston, TX which might not be too long a flight or drive for you depending on where in Texas you live. Get a room as high on the ship as possible, though, because the higher up you are, the less you feel the ship rock if it gets windy (this might sound backwards). You might have to pay extra for a room with a balcony to do so, but they're nice and it's worth not being sick the whole time...just book early. I used a travel agent because I was working a lot and knew I didn't have a lot to spend...she was very helpful, but if you choose you can always book on your own. Good luck! Wherever you end up, you'll enjoy your vacation regardless.

I got married and had my honeymoon in the British Virgin Islands. It was great.I got married in a church right next to the beach and had my reception at at hotel directly on the water. Then we went to Anegada island for the honeymoon. It was so perfect. We rented a house about fifty feet the beach and we could swim, kayak and take walks as we liked. I wanted to cook a little so we took over some groceries and when we did eat out the sea food is absolutely delicious. It is caught fresh everyday.Yes its in the caribbean but its not real touristy. The people are really friendly and are willing to help if u need it. Go to the website and have a look for yourself.I am definitely gonna go back.
Good luck and congratulations!!

What about a cruise? You could hit Mexico and a couple of carribean islands for your budget on like a Carnival cruise. The great thing about cruises is that the price pretty much includes everything. The only things that are not included are the organized shore excursions, alcohol and gratuities. The other great thing is that you can see a couple of different locations in 1 week, but you only unpack once, since you're on this giant floating hotel. Congrats and happy honeymoon!!

We actually just planned our honeymoon last week. We are flying out of Philadelphia and going to the Bahamas. We chose Breezes as our resort. Its very cheap and no kids under 16 allowed, so its peace and quiet! We are staying for 5 days and its costing us about 2,200. So either cut your day shorter and go for 4 days, and u will save money My dad goes every year for his anniversary and its so perfect. There is so much to do, and there is a beach right out of the resort. Its all inclusive so you need just about no money other than if u want to buy gifts. Free food 24/7, free entertainment every night. Pools with barstools in them where you can swim up to the bar and order anything u want, anything! Its all free too! Texas is prob. a longer flight, so it might be more expensive. Just go to your local travel agent (Liberty Travel is great!) and they will sit with you and help you with anything. Let them suggest to you. A lot of the people that work there have traveled all over the world!!! Good luck and let me know what you have decided! Enjoy your honeymoon!!

Rent a beach house. Drive there, and relax. It's the best honeymoon ever. You get so much alone time talking in the car and then you get a week on the beach by yourselfs. You can go grocery shopping, make meals most of the time. It's amazing. There's no agenda.

I would go for a LUXURY SPA RESORT in the USA or Canada.
Best way to enjoy each other in all aspects.....and relax.
You will need it after the wedding...why get stressed with a plane ticket and so many tourists...
Keep the "tropical" honeymoon for your 2nd year of marriage!
Just a suggestion!

I would take a cruise. The end up being almost a thousand per person depending on which cruise line and length of the cruise. plus you get to see different places. all that matters is that you go somewhere that you'll remember forever! and have fun!

We went to Manzanillo & stayed at the Grand Bay Hotel in Isla de Navidad - http://www.elegantsmallhotel.com/hotels/eww7064.html
It was secluded, very luxurious and not touristy at all.
