I adopted a 9 year old cat two weeks ago. Since we got her she has not eaten or drank anything & she hasn't groomed herself at all. I have taken her into the vet several times & they have taken blood & x-rayed her & can't come up with any medical reasons she is not eating. They gave us a syringe & high calorie food & we are force feeding her now. She doesn't like the process at all, but she is definitely a lot more lively now. She is very loving & seems comfortable. She is using the litter box now that we are getting some food in her. Also, we tried tuna last night & she sniffed the bowl for several minutes, but then just walked away. That's the most interested I've seen her in food, but she just won't eat or drink anything!

Since you adopted her I can assume that for 9 years of her life she was with "her" family. She is probably depressed. As long as there is no medical problem for her behavior. Did the vet check her teeth-could have bad teeth. This is a really long time for any animal to go without eating OR drinking. I'm surprised the vet didn't give her an IV just to get fluids in her. Try giving her a tiny bit of sugar in water with the syringe. This will help her energy level. She must have water. Try anything to get her interested in food. Ice cream, scrambled eggs, beef broth, pieces of cooked meats(chicken, beef, salmon or turkey). Just keep giving her lots of affection and make her feel secure. Hopefully she will come around. Good luck.

Props for taking such good care of your new kitty! If there is no physical reason for her not eating, it must be psychological. Try Feliway to make her more at ease (works best in a medium-sized room with the door closed), and leave her alone as much as possible, as the human contact might be stressing her if she's not used to it. Are there any other pets in the house or children that might be stressing her out/intimidating her? Offer different kinds of food (no tuna... it causes urinary tract blockages, which you definitely don't want... trust me, they're expensive!), both wet and dry. Place water in small bowls througout the room so she has options. Try to make her feel as safe as possible and not threatened in any way. I hope your kitty gets better soon!

I am so glad you have consulted a veterinarian about this and that she is not physically ill. Did you give her the food that she was accustomed to eating at the shelter or home from which she came?
Yahoo has a group which I think is called Feline Assisted Feeding. You might check that out, join the group and present the problem there. They will have support, suggestions, etc. for you.

I am glad she is better now.
of course new place and she must be stress. Poor kitty!!!
Show her a lot of love and attention.
Some times you can add a little lean cook chicken with no salt on top of her food.
Or try a little raw chicken liver on top of her food.
See if she will eat.
I think this will do the trick.!!!
Or if she still doesn't eat, place some of her food on your palm of your hands, she may eat out of your hands.
That will start your long relationship with your kitty...
and a loving one I hope.!!!
Good Luck...!!

You have made sure that you aren't trying to feed any of the foods on the recall list?
www.menufoods.com/recall
or had her checked for kidney problems?

Please have her checked out again. This sounds like what one of my kitties had gone thru and it ended up being Leukemia. It was horrible to watch her go through what she went through and her begining sypmtoms sound exactly like Magics were before she got worse.
I dont mean to scare you just make sure they tested for it!

Please see a vet. Your cat is not feeling well because it isn't eating, drinking, or grooming. You need to see the vet ASAP because the cat will become dehydrated and could die.

I would take her to another vet. Either there is something physically wrong or she's depressed.
