pick up like carry

I can't imagine even picking up my 7 year old. He weighs 60 lbs. I think they're big enough to not be picked up or carried by the time they're in 1st grade. Sometimes even before that.

What is the question? Is it normal to lift a 10 year old up, carry them around? Then no, not usually, unless they are quite small or disabled.

Is it normal to pick a 10 year old up during rough-house, playing? Sure, as long as the child enjoys the activities.

If you're strong enough to pick up a 10-year-old, then why not? I think everybody likes affection. Most kids that age are too big to be picked up (just in terms of weighing too much), but if they can still be picked up, then I think it's great. Too soon, it simply won't be possible, so let everybody concerned enjoy it while they can.

As far as that goes, I'm 52, and wish *I* could still be picked up!!! ;-)

No, not unless the child is hurt or disabled somehow. My husband has 3 boys from his ex, ages 9, 10, and 11, and we have a 5 yr old son and a 1 yr old daughter. The only one that gets carried is Ava bc she walks too slow...the others all get told the same thing---"You've got legs. Walk." We don't carry kids over the age of maybe 3, unless they get hurt, or are just too tired--but never over the age of 4. They're too damn heavy!

I think most of them are too heavy to actually be picked up, unless it is a man swinging them around or something. I think that 'most' kids that age do still sit on their parents' laps occasionally in the privacy of their own homes.

Picking them up as in carrying them? I guess it depends on how big they are. Typically I don't see people carrying their 10 year olds around though.

I think 10 yrs old is too big to be carried around but if they still desire I don't think there's a problem with them sitting on your lap sometimes...my son still does once in a while
