I'm a normal teenager with an odd last name. Nut.

This started out on the track team last year. Everyone had a nickname. Mine just happened to be 'Busta'.

Put it together...do you get it?

My oldest son has a nickname and that is the only name I call him unless I get mad and then I use his full name. I have a nickname and my whole family is the only ones to call me by it. I think it is important that when they get up in age that they do know their real name. My cousin's son started school and all he knew was his nickname and when they told him to write his name, he would always write his nickname. That was a problem.

I don't have nick names for my sons. I actually named them short names that have no nick names. Remember, what a child is called, is a self esteem problem or self esteem upper to that child. A child reacts to a name, just as you and I do. I call my grandson Super-______..............and make sure that everyone who calls him anything but his name, is calling him something he can be proud of being. Smart, Good, Helper, all good pre-names.

I call my daughter Sarah "Sari"....
Among my family members and friends, a nickname was awarded when they really liked you. Someone who never got a nickname might actually be hurt or offended by missing out!

I try to call my 5-month old by her name as much as possible, so she learns to recognize it. Somehow, though, my fiancee and I got in the habit of calling her Goober- I just hope she doesn't start thinking that's her name!

My sons are Jacob and Aidan. I call Aidan either "Aidee-poo" or "super chunk" and Jacob--well, he used to be "little man", but lately he's been a holy terror, so I call him by his given name!
